when you cut the skits in the soles on the boots, what tool do you use and do u need to the whole sole or just the outer edge of the sole?

When I did a pair that I was going to use on my shadow scout build (which ha been put on hold) I used a square ended blade on my x-acto knife.

I used a #11 to cut the outlines and to get into the "meat" of the sole. Then I did as Chex did and used a #4 square end to dig out the chunk I outlined. It only needs to be about 1/8th of an inch deep. Just enough to see the detail.
