Dane Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I received my big brown box full of SC armor on 23 Sept! Excited and scared at the same time—never attempted anything like this before. How do I post pictures on this thread? The box came with two knobs. One is thicker than the other. I know one goes in the hump's greeble oval. Which one goes there, and where does the second one go? Any advice will be appreciated! 1
Dane Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 the second one goes on the TD Thanks! The big one or the small one on the TD? Here is my helmet taped together for fit. Will be perfect once padding is in place.
Chex Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Cool. I edited your post so your pic shows up. Just use the IMG link that photobucket gives you.

Dane Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Got the brace in place on the back by following Pandatrooper's tutorial. It's glued and riveted--I don't think it's going anywhere. Also worked on the knees and cut out the helmet's goggle area.
Dane Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 The hump detail unit glued down. Is it allowable to use vinyl stickers for the red stripe and white dot?
Dane Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 Any advice on the eye hole cutting or shape?
Jancelot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Good shape, but I think you could go a bit larger (roughly 5mm on the top, 3mm on the sides, and 2-3mm on the bottom). Check out the size of Go-for-Help's visor:
Jancelot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Also, it's pretty easy to tape off the areas for the red line and white dot. For the red line, place masking tape all around the sides. The just paint the top and don't press down too much or it might force paint down any potential gaps. For the white dot, gently place a couple overlapping rows of masking tape across the top so it covers the circle, the groove and at least a inch further. Don't press down on it yet. Find something that will fit in the groove around the circle without cutting the tape. Press down in to the groove and go around a few times to make certain it's stuck in there. Then press down firmly on the tape outside of the groove. Finally, take an x-acto knife, place it in the groove, and press it up against the inside edge. Cut all the way around. Then remove the tape on top of the circle and paint using the same light pressure method.

I applied three coats to get the color bright enough. Since that worked out I tried the same method with that white disc. I may need another coat.
Dane Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 I am wondering if the ear holes are positioned ok before I cut. The SC build came with stickers, but I assume that they are not acceptable for lancer.
boetscher Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Hi Dane I think the form from the stickers are ok for cut out the holes. When you still have them take it as a template. ;-) So cut the hole like the sticker form. You must only cut the lower side a bit wider then the upper side( you can see it at Jancelot's pictures) For me the left picture look's better then the right I hope it would help a bit.

Hey Björn, Danke! I will take your advice--it helps to have a fresh set of eyes to look at things before you start cutting things!
boetscher Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 No problem.:-) If you have any questions fell free to ask.
Dane Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 My chest armor is complete! Tried on my costume for "first looks." Totally stoked now! Any comments?
Chef Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Looking good. Keep an eye on those biceps, stop them from twisting round the back of your arms. Get some padding in the pouches (not much), just to give them some shape. It's all coming together nicely.
Dane Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Here is my belt (sans TD). How does it look? Do the black clips need to be functional, or are they merely decoration? Are the pouches poofed enough? Are the thigh boxes the correct height? Thanks for the feedback!
Chef Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 You may want to bring your rear straps in a touch. They do sit pretty much under the thermal detonator, and this helps keep them level and sit a bit more evenly on the side of your thighs. if you look here... You can see what I mean. Yes, I know it's a promo shot, but it also doesn't have it's TD in place and you can see that the straps join right at the back. The buckles are decorative. I would give your pouches a little more, just to give them some 'body' and bring out the box like nature of the pouch. Obviously not too much... You don't want it stuff like a Christmas turkey.
Dane Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Here is my trial run on Halloween. It was good to see what worked and what didn't. Boots hurt and the belt broke. Still have some fine tuning.
