DAngel
Hi everyone! While searching for examples of riding patches on this forum, I've found different types of them: 1. This one is my favourite 2. Patch pattern from the gallery 3. One-piece patch by Chunk Which type is the closest to the original one? If I want to do my Scout a good one, I need to recreate the authentic costume as close as possible. Thank you!
Chef
Hi there, Number 2 is probably the better one to use. But remember, it should be tailored to your own frame, rather than blindly following the template. The patch should be high enough that it is covered by the riding flap at the back, and by the cod section of your bund at the front. It should extend down to about 3/4 of the length of your inner thigh (from crotch to knee), and then come round in a gentle curve to the front of your thighs (imagine if you had ironed in seams down the front of your trousers). That would be the rough shape you'll need. **note to self... must draw a diagram for this.**
Chunk
Wahooo! I made the list
DAngel
Thanks, Chef. I created own version, based on patterns and photographs of original costume. This is a sampler from fabric. Any suggestions? Or clarifications? I was particularly interested in the width, height and shape of the back part. It is correct or not? Sorry for a poor quality of photos
Chef
Looks cool. I'd make it a little taller front and rear, just to make sure it all gets covered over by the other stuff. But everything else looks mighty fine.
DAngel
Okay. I agree about the back (top part of patch pined because at first I thought it's too long) But in front I'm afraid that patch will block zipper. How to solve this problem? Make a piece of patch on zipper?
Chef
I'd just sew the patch up either side of the zipper and have a small slot in the top of the patch, so the zipper function still works. That bit will definitely be covered up by the cummerbund. It's only the outer edges that may show.
DAngel
Hi everyone, I'm back. After a couple of days of torment I've got question about shape of rear. Any suggestions? I have two options: round or not round
Chef
The bottom one (no pun intended) looks the best. The flap will cover the majority of the upper portion, so in essence is doesn't overly matter.
DAngel
Hello everyone! Update 30.09.13 Pouches yet unfilled. Are there any comments? I have a question about mudflap. Is it too long?
Chef
Only by and inch or two. If you bring it level with where the strap goes under, you'll be golden. But further than that, looking good. Pouches look a good scale, they'll sit nicely between the chest and belt.
DAngel
Excellent! I'll do it. Thanks for the reply.
