gr1fter Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I see in a lot of the builds, people are using extra pieces of ABS plastic to secure things like the bank tank, some of the rivets in the knees and the gun holster. This may be a silly question but where can I buy / get the type of plastic that is being used in this armor? I don't have any extra pieces of armor or plastic that I can use. Thanks,
Chef Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Try the bay. a local plastic supplier. Or give your armour supplier a bit an email. no doubt they'll have gazillions of it lying around.
Pandatrooper Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Go to a hobby shop and buy some flat sheets of styrene or ABS plastic. Plastruct and Evergreen are 2 brands to look for. Most people use those companies for scratch building miniature railroad buildings and stuff like that. 1
gr1fter Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Thanks guys! I picked up a 12x12 Styrene sheet off of ebay for a couple bucks. Should be just what I need. Thanks again.
NegativeEleven Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Be careful! Regular styrene cracks very easily. If you go to a sign shop, you can ask for ABS or HIPS (High impact poly styrene). They probably have some scraps lying around. I'd mail you some for the cost of postage, but I've only got regular styrene and black textured ABS in my big box of scraps in the garage. If anyone wants that, let me know. Styrene's not on the list for recycling here and I hate to just throw it away.
Chunk Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Or you can go to the .99 store & get any of the plastic bowls or storage boxes. Thats what I use.
Mizuno Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I used some plastik from an old yoguhrt pot on my breast and back plate.
Centuri Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 also make sure if you are gluing styrene onto ABS that you have the correct glue. PVC pipe cement won't work on styrene.
pleasum Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I got some strips from Trooperbay and it was great. My armor supplier also sent me some scrap. All it took was an email. The Trooperbay stuff is perfectly flat and white. It matched very nicely.
