3M bolts flush mount how to?

So this may sound stupid but I have the 3M bolts and a SC helmet... On the back of the bolts (the thread side) there is a square bit that stops the bolt from sitting flush against the helmet if I drill holes the size of the threads. How do I fix this? Do I just drill a much larger hole then I need for the thread, big enough for the square bit to fit though or is there some other secret? Anyone know what tool to use (ie what size bit would be needed if it is just a bigger hole)?

I haven't got to this point in my SC build, but I would just drill the oversized hole. The measurement would be from the corners opposite of each other. One you have that, it will correspond to the diameter of the drill bit needed.

 

I have my doubts though that the bolts will truely sit flush on the SC. The recessed areas on the visor aren't very deep at all.

I got an sc and what I did was drill a hole the size of the screw and file that hole down to be a square and pushed it thrum and it sits flush.it takes like 5-10 minutes but its better than just drilling a bigger hole.

also use a hanndfile to make the circle a sqaure and I think I only needed to do it to the visor part.but if u need to u can also do it on the faceplate.

Visor hole should be 1/2". Inner hole (helmet) should be 1/4". Just push the bolt until it snaps through the 1/2" hole. It'll keep it nice and tight. Then just line the holes up and twist the bolt on from the inside. Done.
