ShaunPug
Hey all, I just recently got my MC armor in the mail and was very excited to start working. However, then I remembered that my flightsuit and vest need to be altered before they fit me. Here's some back story on the matter... Flightsuit and vest were ordered through LSFU and I received them both in a timely manner (this was about 2 years ago). I quickly discovered though, that I am pretty bad at giving proper measurements. I informed LSFU and she told me that I could send it back for alterations and pay on top of what I already paid an additional amount ( which was a little over half what paid for originally for the whole outfit). Unfortunately I wasn't in a position to be able to afford that and had to put it on the backburner. Fast forward 2 years and I get my MC armor and cummerbund. Guess who messed up my measurements again? This guy. Thankfully on the cummerbund its a minor issue. Since I am in a better position now, I asked LSFU if she could do the alterations, but she is cutting back on her orders and hasn't responded... I tried taking my stuff to a few tailors and they all said that they either didn't know how to fix it, or they couldn't, and even one guy who said he just wouldn't. So I guess my question is, Is there someone in the Scout community that could help me aside from LSFU? I would love it if they were located in California as well. I just need some help! Thank you everyone!
bwattsup
Have you tried posting something on Craigslist, or searched for a seamstress there? There's got to be someone local that can help you out. You really need to go that route if you're bad with measurements.
ShaunPug
Apparently JoAnns is supposed to have a list of local seamstresses. I'm going to check it out... I checked out a build topic, and I saw that he used templates for his soft parts. Are those located here on BSN?
LadySewForUs
Try Arkady... She is on TDH..... Or, can you email me again? I am sorry that I missed your email I am seriously swamped. Put "ALTERATIONS" in the subject line. I can ask Arkady if she may want to help you. She is in So Cal as well.
elwyn5150
I messed up my measurements too and put on a bit too much weight. So I'm getting a friend to do it. Unfortunately, we're in Australia.
ShaunPug
Hey Debbi! I just sent you a new email with "ALTERATION" as the subject. Thank you for all the work you do for the community!
Chunk
Im in So Cal. What exactly do you need done?
ShaunPug
Well I actually live up in NorCal near San Francisco. But I tried everything on the other day and I need quite a bit...Mainly in the shoulders and back. I need an inch or more room on each piece of soft armor for my back. Also I need another 2 inches added to my sleeves on the flightsuit (lengthwise).
Chunk
I was thinking of your problem yesterday. Lets tackle the easy one first, the sleeves. You can add extra material to each sleeve to make the appropiate length. Ive seen this done with pant legs. The seam would be hidden by the gloves. Now the hard part, the back. I would cut it straight down the middle from the collar to the waist & add a wedge of fabric. This will add the needed width. The extra material & seams wouldnt be visible due to being under the vest & cummerbund. The only visible area should be the most upper back & neck. We're talking about 4" of visible material. Chunk
Actually if your wearing a vest the collar is the only visible area & that is mostly covered by the helmet. So your golden. If you can't find anyone in your area to do this. PM me & we can work some thing out.
ShaunPug
Thanks for thinking that through Joe. I found a friend of mine who says she thinks she can do it. I think I'll head to JoAnn's soon to find the right fabric. I'll take pics when I actually start. It may be helpful to others! Are these alterations going to hurt my chances of becoming a Lancer?
