painting the kenner?

When u paint the Jenner Blaster do u have to sand the surface or can u just spray it black.my dad says you have to sand it, but hes been wrong with everything ive been doing with my scout.

Since it's no good for Lancer status anyway, just sand the parts that say "Kenner" or whatever words are molded on it Then paint it black & cut off the trigger. That should pass basic approval just fine.

Ok cool thanks.my dad said the paint wont stick unless you sand it but I'm getting opinions from the experts haha thanks.

It wouldn't hurt to rough sand, but with spray paint these days you don't need to. I would sand all the seems flat and all the copyright and branding off

Does it still have the Return of the Jedi stickers on the barrel and scope? You'll wanna get those off. Maybe a little paint thinner and sandpaper to clean up that area.

I did this for a friend of mine. Pealed the stickers, cleaned it up. Rough sanded with high grit (600 grit) paper. Primed it with some rustoleum auto primer, then painted it black. She was happy with it and since you don't need a blaster for clearance, you can leave the trigger on if you want to..but like BJ said..kill the trigger.

you can pick up plastic primer, a base coat that bonds to plastic, giving you a nice base

Yeah mine came with no stickers.but do you need to sand it?

I have a Kenner Blaster. I sanded mine with fine sandpaper all over. I used Walmart paint, .99 a can. Gray primer, silver paint & finally semi flat black. Usethe same used sandpaper gently now & take off the sheen & a lil harder on the corners & edges to show the silver. Will come out battle damaged.

I prefer to use toothpaste as masking on the silver (actually aluminum looks better) before painting the black, then wash and scrub off the toothpaste. If you try sanding, you might take of the black and the silver then you gotta start over.
