PanzerKraken Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 So got some fans I would like to put in the helmet, but not sure on where they would be best placed. I've seen for other helmets it recommended putting it by the mouth area to circulate around the face, but with the snout shape of the scout this seems like it wouldn't work so well as the snout would be blocking most of the air flow, as well as probably causing issues with any mics being used with a speaker system.
Donovan Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Ive heard on the cheeks or by the ears where you cut them out is good
Chef Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 To be honest... In all my Scout buckets I've never needed fans. The air circulation is pretty good when you cut the ear vents out. Some people put mesh across the ears and mount the fans directly behind the mesh so the fans draw air in from the outside. Me, I just stand and face the breeze for a bit. Does exactly the same job.
PanzerKraken Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 Circulation is better with the scout than with other buckets I've used that have been completely closed, but still with the Florida weather here..... don't mind the extra help
bjsavage7 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Some people put mesh across the ears and mount the fans directly behind the mesh so the fans draw air in from the outside. Thats what I have done. It gets hot in Florida. At some point, I'm going to re-rig it to just one fan in the snout, & pull the mesh out the ears for accuracy. Right now, I'm making use of all available space in my helmet. lol...
PanzerKraken Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 So many put the fans facing to draw air from outside so the flow goes towards the back of the bucket? Was thinking or having them around that area but in the curve aiming the air towards the front.
Griffin-X Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I also do not use fans in my lid. I'm in North Texas and it gets pretty hot. The scout helmet gets more air than a TK style bucket.
Donovan Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I wore my bucket for a good amount of time and it doesn't get too hot.
Dart Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I use one fan that's mounted on the inside of the snout. I've got a hollow MC snout so I drilled a hole through the faceplate and installed a blower/squirrel fan that blows up towards my lens. Works very well.
