Chef
Progress has been slow on this due to other projects in the works... but here's a bit more. Main bucket flatted and given a coat of primer. Needs a tiny bit more work, but it's about 95% there. Face-plate being secured in place to the visor shroud. A bit of plastic putty added in around the edge to reinforce the glue. I'll be doing this around the entire edge when I get the clamps off. From the front. It all lines up quite nicely. I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

darthmynock
Howdy Rob, congrats on the pulls, it looks awesome. So where is the interest list? Where do we sign?
Chef
Some more shots of the latest work... Nearly there. Had a bit of a nightmare with the masking so I'm going to need to re-do the snout area. No biggie though. I have gone about this in a bit of a funny fashion. I should have already cut the ears out, and I should have put the lens in by now..... But you know how these things are! I'm waiting on the decals from Mike, and I need to get some more glue sticks to put the visor in. So short of those arriving, and sorting the snout area out. I'm there. Antonio, I couldn't possibly say there are any for sale..... not in light of recent events and this being an open forum!
CiderQueen
This helmet has now come to me and Rob has asked me to finish off the thread for him. My own helmet build was almost at the same stage but the finish wasn't as good as I had hoped so Rob kindly offered to swap with this one. My hubby Ian (nai-retep) completed the build for me by cutting out the ears with a dremel. We fitted the lens and applied a layer of polish to the whole thing, more as a protection layer for the paint. We applied the decals and padded the inside to fit my little noggin! My costume has now cleared with this helmet and I have done my first troop in it. I chose this plastic version because it was so much lighter than the GRP version which Ian has. I found it really comfortable and would thoroughly recommend it for those who find the GRP a bit on the heavy side, particularly ladies! Really pleased with the helmet and armour - thanks Rob! Chef
Some more shots of the latest one. It's a bit of a complex build, but the end result is quite satisfying. I'm currently updating my Storm Commando lid too... Also comes in black! hehehehe. Then onto the Swampy and Forest Troopers!
cucblack
Great Helmet, congratulation!!! Could you cut and sand the face/visor corner symmetric with the edge around the all area and get a much better result
Chef
After a few buck revisions (always tweaking them... you know how it is...) Here's the latest one. Still a few more minor tweaks that I've found, but they really are miniscule.

CRISTONAMO
Wow, your latest helmet REALLY looks like the original! I don't know why but it just looks like you got the perfect shape!
Chef
Thanks buddy. It's that constant looking at it and going... "Bugger... better change that!". Still a few more to go here and there. Been doing some work on the armour bucks too. Scored a real Singlepoint scope for the Blaster. Now I know this is the rounded end version, but I was more interested in the smaller turrets that you don't often see. I've altered the front to a tapered tip and is now ready for casting. I've made the shoulder bucks larger and deeper, for the slightly bigger amongst us. I've tweaked the bicep armour, so it's 15mm taller and increased the slot size to take the 38mm webbing. Altered the angle of the webbing slot on the chest plate too, as I noticed that it is canted ever so slightly and not directly up and down. It need to be a little bigger, towards the bottom of the plate too I noticed after a bit more looking... I shall be doing this before any test pulls. Then lastly, I've re-done the belt. I noticed that the V on the front part doesn't extend all the way to the top, so I filled that in, and also curved the boxes, so they follow the body line better. Plastic is on it's way, so I'll be doing some test pulls end of the week.

Chef
Now I know this next post is not lid related in any way.... But seeing as I've started here. I just end up carrying on! This is going to be massively pic heavy... apologies. Blaster and Scope now all cast and sorted. finished blaster along with its junior. Blaster in the holster. The new bucks... Extended biceps, new belt. And the thermal det... nothing new to this, but I've put on the two belt hooks at either side of the main get.
Chef
Just a bit of nostalgia I thought I'd share. A picture of the evolution of my lid, showing a couple of the recent updates. I had these three lids to do all at the same time, so it was nice seeing them all lined up. Couple of Lids finished up.. And one for the Spec Ops boys!

Chef
Finally got the chance to do a bit more work on these over the past few days. Addressed the 'low dome' issue after studying the dimensions of the screen used helmets. Also deepened out the snout area by a few mil. Roughing out the new dome. all smoothed out. Test pull. deeper snout. (added in some personalisation) Test pull. I won't get chance to build this up for a while yet, but I'd like to think I'm 'nearly there'. Pffft... Who am I kidding... I'll keep on adjusting them ad-infinitum.
bugdozer
This is fascinating. Earlier in the thread you refer to your original bucks being cast from an existing helmet you had - can I ask what type of helmet that was?
Chef
The bucks were originally made from one of my Fibreglass helmets, which started out (all those years ago) based from a Don Post that wouldn't stay still (which in itself went through a few 'adjustments').
