shdwtrpr13 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 So I'm finishing up the hard parts and I'm stuck at riveting the webbing belt to the plastic. I am.in sure how to do this part. Any advice would be greatly helpful. Quote
Southscout Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I did like this: - put the webbing belt around you, and tape it or secure it behind you - fit the plastic belt so it sits good and mark where you want the rivets to go at the end of the plastic - drill holes in the belt where the rivets are supposed to go with a proper drill bit (i.e. same size as your rivet) - with an awl or something sharp, make a hole in the webbing where the rivet should go. Don't cut it or it will fray around the hole, so try to keep the fabric undamaged. - insert the rivet, add a washer on the back (if you don't have one you can make it from a coin for instance) - fasten the rivet with a rivet gun - cheer and start considering if you want a fastex clip in the back, or the velcro-solution Here's a picture of my belt: Quote
Chex Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Or you could get a sautering iron and poke a hole in the webbing. The nylon should melt and will not tear. Quote
4505Marcel Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I would recomend melting the hole either wile making the hole with the soldering iron as Mike says or after with a lighter to avoid the webbing fraying, and use the biggest backing washer you can find. I also glue mine down with epoxy as the rivit only holds the middle. 1 Quote
shdwtrpr13 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 My main concern was that excess from the rivet after I popped it into place. I alwas seem to have a nipple. Quote
