BrewDiver
ok folks, i know i ask a ton of questions but alot has been on my mind, after getting initial approval can i weather my armor and still be able to troop in cannon events or do they require clean armor only?, i understand with non cannon events but one of my goals is to walk in the disney parade at SWW, so would weathered be ok for that or no? Chef
Yup.... Ask yourself this... Did you always see CLEAN Scouts in the films? No... in fact, you very rarely see a Clean scout (only in the Death Star scenes), so actually a dirty scout would be more canon (note only one N) than all those slack jawed pencil pushing scouts who just shine their backsides on the Death Star (you know who you are!) and don't do any real work! Oh... Yeah, my armour is dirty.
4505Marcel
Weathered 100% bud, just dont go too heavy as we are not sandies. Scout weathering is a real gripe of mine, basically we were given black rattle can splats. Man thats utter rubbish, where would we get black splats from in a forest. Shame there wasnt much thought went into it and they rushed what really is a great costume, I personally refuse to just have just black splats as I like more real world, while I have a hint of black splat, I used greens and browns also to replicate what we would have really got in a forest, Ive sort of swiped a sponge down the side of various bits to look like branch whacks, and I used a oily brown flicked up the front with a tooth brush to look like hydraulic oil splats from the speeder. bjsavage7
To march at SWW, I wouldn't get too crazy with the weathering, as all costumes are reviewed first, but it is definitely ok to have. In fact, if you scout enough in FL, your suit gets naturally weathered pretty quickly anyway.
Chef
The coined phrase is "less is more" I too have gone slightly more natural in weathering, with subtle shades of browns, with a hint of green and also using the screen used Black rattle can method. On the soft parts I used real mud and grass and splattered some used engine oil over it. Nothing more realistic than the real thing I say. I also aimed to try and replicate the screen used weathering as far as practicable in terms of placement. I just changed the colours to something that would more naturally sit there. Also, the weathering is so light, that in certain lights (especially on camera) it appears as though there is no weathering at all... yet in others, it's blatantly obvious. Here's my lid (in a slightly unfinished state) here's the screen used one. Here's the backplate in low light. and again in normal light..... See how it looks completely different. In pretty much 95% of the pictures of my suit, it appears as though there is no weathering at all. Yet up close, it's actually pretty scuffed up. silverBoyd
I too want to add a light weathered look to my armor. Definately not as weathered as my Sandtrooper but something about clean white armor bugs me. I like the spray can weathering but i don't like the idea of using spray paint from a distance. I prefer acrylics since they can be taken off much easier
