Donovan Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 What can be done to fix yellowed plastic that occurred from age or the sun?could I just put some layers of gloss white paint over the yellow or is the armor just trash after its yellowed?
Southscout Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Paint or some other solution would do the trick as long as the plastic is not brittle or cracked. To call it trash after just some discoloration is probably a bit too harsh A quick googling gave me a couple of results like this one: http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-whiten-yellowed-plastic/
4505Marcel Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Unfortunately you cant really reverse that, its just old age and too much exposure to sun. But as Patrick said gve it a rub down and a coat of paint if possible. Depends what it is your trying to do I guess
Donovan Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 South- awesome thanks!this site helped!nd sorry didn't really mean trashed I kinda meant that it wasn't going to be as good as original...idk Im bad at wording things lol
Donovan Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 Marcel- I was going to ask Jeff at sc if he could sell a set of yellowed armor to me for a cheaper price if possible.so I wanted to get ur guys thoughts/ideas
4505Marcel Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Im not sure any one would have a set laying around that had been yellow'd with age or the sun bud. These things dont tend to sit about
Donovan Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 Marcel I talked to Jeff and he said he had yellowed parts but he doesn't know if he has a full kit Atm.
Pandatrooper Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 ABS plastic can yellow over time due to sun UV exposure, exposure to heat or chemical reaction due to contact with other materials. Eg: vinyl material gives off out gas fumes that can turn armor yellow. I have had that happen from storing armor in gear bags or hockey bags. You could try and polish it out or paint it as suggested. Heres some more bold methods but I have never tried them. http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-whiten-yellowed-plastic/
4505Marcel Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Marcel I talked to Jeff and he said he had yellowed parts but he doesn't know if he has a full kit Atm. Bonus if he has mate, it will be usable for sure
Donovan Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 He doesn't have a full kit :c o well I can still buy a regular kit
