Holdout blaster magnet mod Keep that blaster in its holster!

Recommended Posts

I decided to do this simple mod on mine and my wife's blasters.

I got a 1/2"X 1" X 1/8th" magnet with a screw hole in the center.

( They seem to only have ones with 2 holes now, but i got them here: http://www.magnet4le...roducts_id=1167 )

then i used my dremel sanding barrel to sand away right under the nozzle in front of the blaster like this:

I did this just enough to be the thicknes of the3 magnet, which is 1/8th" thick

i then used zap a gap CA glue and a screw to attch the magnet to the blaster

I forgot to take pics of the next step...which was basically putting a little bondo on the sides to even it all out, then paint!

you can put either another magnet or a piece of metal like this.....

...into the holster where that part of the blaster rests. I did this with MC holsters with no problem. My wifes SC needed a little modding, but it worked in that holster as well.

Hope this helps someone out!

Thanks Lou. I'm liking the blaster but have a gap between my SC holster and the blaster so the magnet can't sit in this spot and still connect:

You mentioned modifying your wife's SC - can you please show how you did it?

I can think of mounting the magnet a bit higher up, but it wouldn't be as strong a connection? Or do you pack it with other material?

Any advice would be great - I'm keen to troop with it on the weekend so will need to McGyver something in the next few days.

Unfortunately i never took pics of the wifes holster and she no longer has the armor. If i recall correctly i did pretty much the same thing i did with the MC holster but i added a couple of pieces fo ABS underneath the magnet to boost the magnet higher up. You could also use another magnet to boost it higher and get more pull. If i had a SC holster here i may be able to show how to get it to work but i dont have one on hand. You basically just need to make that area flatter on the SC holster i think. Hopefully what i just said makes sense and you can figure something out based on it!

Here's my shelf construction - using a couple of plastic dominoes that a local supermarket did as a Disney/Pixar promotion (the same supermarket that NZ's Outpost 42 is trooping at this month to promote Star Wars cards).

E6000'd them together, stuck the magnet to them, and then have just glued to the holster. I'm not 100% convinced it will hold, or will not be ripped off each time the blaster pulls on the magnet, so may eventually look at riveting, but let's try the simplest option first.

Glad you were able to work that out! Also i realized when i did this mod it was before i made blasters so it was done on i think it was the blaster that SC links to. so there may be a difference in size in that area. I do remember there not being such a big gap , it just wasnt sitting flush..i think i only needed to add a quarter inch of plastic. BUT i am glad this can be worked out though.
