Need some help

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just submitted my photos for the 501st and they recommended a few things like the cummerbund needs to be higher, the vest sleeves need to be shorter and the biceps need to be pulled up a little tighter. Please if you guys can look over what I have and lend some guidance that would be great. Thanks.

You might also consider moving your shoulder bells up a fair bit as they look like they're a bit too far down your shoulder. I'd also bring up your hip boxes about 2 inches. Also, your leg straps are a bit too low - might consider moving them up if possible and tightening them up as well.

You've got a great start, otherwise. Keep going and you'll be ship shape in no time! :)

Yup the guys have nailed it, bund and pouches are defo too small and pouches the wrong way round. Shoulders do want to go up and in, belt needs to come down and drop box straps shortened. Thigh straps want to be re stitched slightly higher, looks like you need a balaclave also.

Cant really comment on the vest sleeves as I cant really see where they are, just tweaks your rig looks sound all in all. So just tweaks needed

Great start on this costume. I agree with the above comments. If you have a clearer shot of the vest, that would help. You may just need to adjust the shoulders, biceps, and forearms to make them sit better. That may take care of the vest sleeves looking too long.

Thanks you all for the kind words.

I definitely agree my cummerbund will need to be fixed. The straps for the thigh boxes are an easy adjustment as are the shoulder pauldrons (how far from the chest armor the CRL is hard to judge). As for the Cummerbund I need to know how much higher/lower it needs to go?

I'd lower the belt first. You want to have your cummerbund height at least an inch past the bottom of the chest plate, and an inch past the top of your belt. That way, everything overlaps.

Here are some other photos fellas please let me know what you guys think

Now if my vest is too long is line A or line B more appropriate

As for the boxes those are an easy fix. Can someone show me how the belt needs to be put on my costume I am having a hard time understanding where it needs to overlap the cumberbund. Anyway thank again for all the help.

The B line on the vest sleeves looks better. The sleeve is supposed to end just below the bottom of the shoulder bell.

As for the cummerbund, that's a little trickier since the width (top to bottom) is so narrow. It looks like you have the room to drop the whole bund an inch. Not much more though :/ This is going to cause the top portion of the bund to be more visible. Then you need to have the top edge of the belt barely cover the bottom edge of the cummerbund. The bottom edge of the chest plate then covers the top edge of the cummerbund. It's going to be hard to do both because of the width. Usually, they overlap by a couple of inches both ways.

Hi Erik, I did a quick photoshop comparison for you based on what I think are some the major fixes. Might help as pictures are easier to understand than our descriptions! Your original photo is on the left, the updated version on the right.

For the shoulders, they need to be brought up (shorten the shoulder elastic, and make sure you have the elastic that goes around the bicep / vest. This will prevent them from flopping around. I would say shorten the shoulder elastic by at least 1.5"

I would lower the chest armor by about 1.5" too. It seems to be hanging too high.

Lower the belt about 2" lower, it seems too high and too tight. Its currently sitting at your waist (narrowest part) you want it above the hips, like where your jeans belt would sit.

The bad news is I think the cummerbund and pouches will need to be remade. The bund is not nearly long enough from sternum to waist, I'd say make it 4" longer. The cod piece could be reused, but it might be a bit wide in the crotch. There's some camel toe action going on. You can pad it internally to make it less wrinkly, narrowing the width helps in the crotch area.

The pouches look really small, are you using the forum templates? You can judge by the size in the photo above, they actually are quite big on the screen used costume and they stick "out" the sides quite a bit.

Hope that helps. Terry
