DarthShlomo Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I have seen that several here have recommended the Red Kap CT10 coveralls as a great low cost way to go. I love these and have used them for a couple costumes as they are inexpensive, durable, and are easy to modify into a variety of configurations. And this is the route I plan on going for my TB as well. The Biker Scout CRL doesn't say anything about the collar but I have seen posts here that state that a TB will not be approved with the collar as is on the Red Kap coveralls. I am working on a Kal Skirata for the BHG and I modified the collar on a pair of Red Kap coveralls into a mandarin collar. Will this be acceptable for a TB since I will be wearing a balaclava or does it have to be the Velcro tab style that I see some members have? Here is the pic of the mandarin collar I put on a set of Red Kap coveralls. Thanks for any help!
chimei Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 the collar would need to be altered to close. that opening isn't accurate. the balaclava goes inside the collar, so it would show.
Griffin-X Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I would add a flap to cover the front part and you should be good to go. I've also got the Redkap coveralls and made a mandarin collar style flap using one of the pockets I removed. I sewed the flap to one side, then flip my collar up and I added Velcro to the suit and flap to close it up. It works really nice for me. Also, I wear my balaclava on the outside. There is no specification that I am aware of to the contrary. Balaclava For 501st approval: "A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer's skin and/or facial hair."
DarthShlomo Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 OK. That's an easy fix to add a Velcro closure to the collar. But here is another question. If this feature of the jump suit is so important and can keep a person from getting approved, why is it not part of the CRL?
Griffin-X Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 IMO, general approval comes down to the overall look of the applicant and the Garrison Membership Liason (GML) who approves for your Garrison. Some GML-s are more aggressive than others. In general, the neck closure does not affect approval since it cannot be seen. If you decide to go for Lancer approval, you will need to follow a more screen accurate approach. Hope this helps...
DarthShlomo Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 It does. Thanks! And since I intend to go for Lancer I am trying to take all those steps in the initial construction.

Darth Voorhees Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Well, yeah. I'm pretty awesome already! Just ask anyone in Florida Garrison! LoL LOL! I took the entire collar off of my RedKap and made a new one that wraps around from another Redkap i had originally bought to make a TIE pilot conversion.

Do you have a pic of the one you made on your Red Kap? I'd like to see how you did the overlap.
