4505Marcel Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Well after buying the MG42 and deciding it was not right after all, Ive decided to scratch build the DC-15x instead. Got hold of some suitable round edge ali box section, and have pre drilled the barrel holes, I will be using the original butt, grips and bipod from the MG. This is the battle front rifle My bits so far Im going to get the muzzel break machined out of ali and make the reciever out of wood with added greebles and a real scope Its a tough one to completely nail as in the game the blaster changes detail alot as its a bit wishy washy More to follow........... 3
Havok69 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Nice - I'll be watching this one as I will be doing my own scratch built DC 15x as well, once I get my armor done. I'll be especially interested in seeing how you do the flash hider. My build probably won't be as good as yours as I am going strictly with stuff from the hardware store like PVC\plywood\aluminum, but I'm sure seeing yours progress will help me along. I've just started to wander the aisles looking for ideas...
Griffin-X Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Very cool Marcel! I'm a weapons guy so this will be a nice one to watch.
Cyber Scout Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 And i've bagged the rest of the MG for my Aliens M56 Smart Gun "LET'S ROCK!!" LOL 1
Chef Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I see you managed to source that box section then. where did you get it from in the end?
4505Marcel Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 That company you gave me the link for mate thanks, aparently no one really stocks it with the rounded edges, normally just square. That company has extruded several lengths for a certain job a company ordered it for so I got lucky. Down side I had to order 2 mtrs when I only needed 700mm approx, so have some in stock if anyone else decides to go this route, its 46.5mm square and when sat up against my MG barrel is pretty close and the bipod ect size wise is spot on, doesnt look much at the moment, but will come to life. Just need to find someone to machine the muzzel break for me out of ali
4505Marcel Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 Started roughing out the parts this weekend, starting to look like the rifle now...... Excuse the kids batman lego set they just put together and the packed up MG in the back ground lol
4505Marcel Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 Ive decided to change the barrel a little, to give it a much better look. Ive cut a section out of a 50mm tube and re drilled the holes. I think it gives it a more made for purpose look rather than a off the shelf item if you like. Still need to get it welded on and then start the top details on the barrell, but what do you think? 1
bwattsup Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 That looks awesome! Definitely gives it a much smoother/detailed look. Are you going to do the welding work yourself?
4505Marcel Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 If I can get hold of a tig set I will, if not I work part time at the college and they have a welding department so il pop it in to them
bwattsup Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 That's a pretty nice fringe benefit to have! I look forward to seeing how your project turns out Marcel. Once I finally get my scout built, I would love to tackle something like this. I weld as well.
4505Marcel Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 Barrel greeblies on, just needs welding up now..... Also added a micro switch before I glued the stock together just incase I decide to add a blast core later on 1
Griffin-X Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Wow, this is coming along nicely Marcel! Awesome work mate!
Eagerly Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Marcel......Hurry up and get this bad boi made....Then cast it and sell me one Top work as usual buddy
4505Marcel Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Well here is where I am as of today, inner barrel is ready to be welded to its support plate, the bipod mount is ready to be welded to the outer barrel. Stock has been sanded, and greeblies have been added made out of ABS sheet. I also used one of my old real scopes, Im off to college tomorrow so will be butt licking to get the barrel welded Now use your imagination, these are the plans I have drawn up for the muzzel/ flash hider, Im hoping I can sweet talk the wifes brother into machining this for me.
Guest xphiledgex Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Looks awesome! You gonna post the schematics on this when your done?
4505Marcel Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Yeah I can certainly draw something up, at the moment I'm just winging it and using trial and error along with the poor picture reference, but I'm liking it do far 1
9506 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Definately likin' the progress!!! Same here. Looking forward to seeing the next update.
4505Marcel Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 I wonder how hard it is going to be to make a mold of that barrel though, never molded anything in my life so this is going to be fun.
4505Marcel Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Paint colour advice, I dont think this rifle is black looking at the top reference picture. I was going to use a very dark coloured ford graphite grey, what do you guys think?
