Can anybody please give me some advice on roughly how much suede I will need and tips on how to sew it? I'm not very large. 5'9" roughly 190 pounds. I know the flap needs to be sewn just above the waist, but is that the only place it's sewn on the top?

I should clarify. There is a butt flap on my flight suit, just not sure if it's accurately sewn.

Yup butt flap is hanging loose and just sewn along the top edge out of sight (above waist). I brought half a hide from Tandy leather and id say it would do atleast 3 scouts. Just buy the thin suded and any normal machine will sew it, or you can hand sew. Mark the crotch patches on the suit with chalk and then it will give you an idea of if its moved when sewing

Thanks. Yeah this flight suit has the flap sewn in on all four sides. I believe the crotch patches are correct on it though. Hard to tell because the suede blends in so well with the suit. I wonder if just removing the stitching from the other three sides would work?

I'll probably end up having my girlfriend do it. That way if it gets messed up and can blame her. Worst case senario is I'll end up just having to remove the whole thing start over with a new flap.

You could un pick the butt flap, not sure if you'll like the finished product? Suggestion might be to unpick (seam rip) the sides and bottom as you suggested, and instead of leaving flap as one layer, sew a backing on it to make it a little thicker?

The thigh patches look like they could work, but they are a bit small compared to the screen scouts.

Is this a racing suit that came with the butt flap and riding patches already on it?

Honestly I don't know. I purchased it from somebody who was already an approved member. He probably had it before the rule changes took place. I could possibly even sew a new butt flap over the old one. Not sure what to do if the thigh patches aren't big enough.

Makes me wonder how the suit ever got approved in the first place.

well, i've seen some shotty scouts out there...and i've only been in for a year...which is why i appreciate the diligence that is going into basic and lancer CRLs. my LW helmet is almost done and i'm making my flak vest so i'll be applying for lancer soon.

but pockets sewn on pants are easily removed.

I think I would rather start over from scratch anyway. The suit is a little baggy. I look like the MC Hammer of Biker Scouts. I'm not sure what all the requirements are to be a lancer over basic.

That's a flight suit, right? Lots of zips and openings - including that one with the snap. The riding patch is way too small and the mud flap isn't wide enough.

If you're planning on redoing the suit, there's better options out there than military flight suits.

Doing some research on a new suit now. Going to be a long while before I'm of Lancer specifications. Need to replace boots for that and do modifications on the helmet. Right now would just be happy with basic admission. Even before that I need to replace the endcaps on the detonator as well. If anybody knows a good place where I can get just the endcaps I would be eternally grateful.

Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me to get this costume right. Guy really jacked it up. I might have it done in a year. :angry2::6::(
