  1. That helps a lot, actually! I like having visual references, and this will give me something to compare results with
  2. I've been saving the trimmings, yes. I have a feeling I'm gonna need it. Had an extra boost of confidence today so I tried trimming a bit more. It's not pretty, but here's what I got right now. Also ignore the glitter tape. My fiance used all my good stuff and this was all I could find, haha. Also had a casualty. My first of the build, I'm sure. Definitely could've watched that stanley knife a bit better. Still got a long ways to go. Might go back at it today and try to smooth everything out. Once I'm confident it all looks alright I'll finally get to putting it all together. I still got all my trimmings for paste and I got the extra plastic strips for backing, just gotta heat it up and shape it as best I can.
  3. So I started trimming today and figured I’d start on the helmet since that seems the most intricate but has trim lines to follow, for the most part. Start with the difficult work and work your way down. I may have made a mistake, but I’m not sure. I’ve followed the lines as best I could, but I ran into some trouble on the dome. At @BikerScout007‘s suggestion I’m asking here after getting their advice for a fix (thank you by the way!) I do have some extra plastic on the other side, as well as some extra plastic strips in general from the kit. I’ve read somewhere that there’s supposed to be a gap, but I’m not entirely sure. This is my first time working with plastic, so I just want to take every precaution possible and get as much advice as I can along the way. How do I proceed from here, and if this is a mistake, what would be a good way to fix it?
  4. Got my hard armor in today! I ordered from CFO/Strider and very excited (but apprehensive) to get started! Apprehensive because I've never done anything like this before. Talk about diving in head first. I'm trying to get a hold of some folks in my local garrison to see if there might be a build day coming up so someone can show me the ropes. Don't want to lean on someone for the whole thing, of course. I'm a hands-on learner anyway. If anyone knew of any decent how-to videos or guides, or just had any advice, tips in general for a newbie I'd be incredibly appreciative! But so far I'm very happy with what I got and very excited! The soft parts are in transit as well, but I have no tracking number for it so... Hope it gets here okay. And it doesn't get stolen from my apartment's mail room.
  5. Also just realized this is in the completely wrong section because I'm a dope... Could I ask for an admin to move it? I can't seem to delete this
  6. Second pic, for some reason it won't let me upload them together even though both pics are under 150 kb
  7. So I made a build thread on the NEG page but completely forgot to make one here. I figured now would be a good time to start since I actually have something to show. Everything for the scout is on order, since I don't have a 3D printer nor do I really trust myself trying to build my first costume from scratch! I want to try and get my build as close to Lancer status as I can as I work for basic approval, since I'll probably immediately start working toward that once I am approved, whenever that day may be! Parts and vendors for all my bits are: The Scout: Helmet - CFO Armor - CFO Flight Suit - KriptonTop Cummerbund - KriptonTop Pouches - KriptonTop Flak Vest - KriptonTop Balaclava - Shopping around Gloves -Wompa Wear Boots - Cheesewhoopy (Thanks again!) Straps and buckles - Shopping around Optional stuff/Things I might want to accessorize with. Let me know if it would work or not! Holdout blaster - Found a couple on Etsy but haven't committed yet DLT-19x - Same as holdout, though may try to put a note out to my reenacting unit to see if I could get old repro parts and just build one Electrobinoculars - Possible accessory for 2-man sniper team since a friend of mine expressed interest in also building a scout Comm link - Doesn't look overly complicated, and could possibly actually make walkie talkies with them. Could probably build myself. Helmet audio kit - Found something promising on etsy. Probably going to be the final thing I tackle. As for the something to show, I got my gloves in today! They're very comfortable and fit well, though I'm not sure if this would still be considered to be 'flaring out' or not. Tried to wear a thin coat to kinda simulate how it would look with the flight suit on. Also I'm probably going to end up taking that clip on the side off, unless that might cause issues. Realistically I'm never going to use it anyway and it just looks out of place.
