So this small touch up has become a nightmare. I should've just left it the way it was with a chip. The gloss from Crosslinks is way too glossy. RS Props says gloss, but for the most part the paint application is so thin it's a satin to semi-gloss. I tried painting some acrylic satin finish on it on my first attempt and it matched pretty well for the sheen. However, once I tried getting some of the black weathering from my air brush it was too fine and you couldn't see the splotchy weathering the rest of the helmet has. It just turned everything to a gross off-white grey. Steel wool also doesn't react the same on the paint I've used compared to what RS uses. I also tried using delicate painters tape (the yellow frog tape) and normal frog tape and it completely peels off the paint. I've now gone from what was going to be a very small area to basically the entire cheek since so much paint came off. I'm honestly really REALLY upset. This has taken way too much time for something that should've been so easy. One last thing is the enamel 2 oz bottle airbrushed causes a very weird white/matte part when you don't put enough paint on it making it an extremely jarring transition in color. Like someone put matte bright white on the border of your air brush. The pictures below are after I just used a brush on it on since air brushing didn't really work out the way I wanted. As well as I can't really use spray paint since I can't mask the paint off without fear of all of it just coming off. I'll likely have to sand it a bit, or steel wool it to get it more even then put weathering then put the satin finish. I also got a bit of paint on the lens and now need to replace the lens since it's very scratched now as I tried getting the enamel paint off. Gosh... I'm so mad. Paid for a fully finished prop to just ruin it basically.

So the good news is the RAL 9010 is basically a perfect match color-wise. It looks a bit white until it dries and then it matches. I tried using the marker/pen and it's useless since you can't get an even coat and the fibers in the marker tip make air bubbles. The touch up paint doesn't really work either. It's very weird to get an even coat since they basically give you a nail polish brush applicator. You can see it's also dull since I mushed the paint with a nail to try and make it more even and ended up chipping it even more LOL. Anyways, I ordered the gloss RAL 9010 spray paint can since I was trying to avoid having to mask off the helmet, spray paint, and then add a mist of weathering with an airbrush, but it seems that's what I'll do! Original Chip Poorly done touch up and making a bigger chip LOL. I tried a few times and then realized this is not the approach to get the results I want. RAL 9010 from Crosslink Touch Up Paint and Pen, I think spray paint is the way to go for sure.

I’m surprised since RS has always been super helpful when I ask them questions. Let’s hope it matches well since I have no idea who RS’s manufacturer is as I’m sure it’s UK based, but it’ll be good to touch up the armor and helmet as I ding and scratch it throughout troops.

Super helpful! I'll post my touch up once I do it since I have some paint chipping on my bucket right on the cheek. Curious to see if it matches very well or not.

Just wanted to circle back. I bought a Humbrol Satin 130 since I found a chart that said it's RAL 9010 and it's NOT. It's way too white. RS Props also got back to me and confirmed they use RAL 9010 GLOSS for the base coat, so I bought some from where @jennyruth got it. https://www.crosslinkpaints.com/

Is that a custom color I need to purchase or is that sold by a certain company? It looks like a semi-gloss/satin to me too since the grey topical weathering is a lot shinier than the white. Update: I see her thread and she got it from crosslinkpaints.com and it is semi-gloss. Okay cool!

Hey there! I sent an email to RS Props as well. However, I wanted to ask here. Does anyone know what colors are used to paint the Scout Trooper armor on RS Props? Just got a full comission and realized it is painted with a white on top of the ABS. I had no idea! I think the grey and black are Humbrol Satin 85 black and Humbrol Grey Gloss 5. I have no idea what the white is. I'll probably just have to wait for a response after the holiday weekend unless someone here knows? Thanks!

RS Props Full Commission is good enough for Basic Approval?

Cool. Checked with the GML and they basically said it's a good kit and should be good if it's fitted correctly and to check on here. Sounds like I'm good to pull the trigger then. -

That makes sense. I figured there would be some rigging and adjusting so it looks correct, but that's much easier than taking a kit and turning it into something. I just wasn't sure if something on the Imperial Boots soft goods or armor or something was going to have to be replaced completely due to inaccuracy. Adjusting for fit is a different story. -

Hello there. I'm looking to buy the fully finished commission from RS Props. Is it 501st basic approved as a clean costume (no extra black air brush weathering) or are there any pieces that typically need to be replaced since they are inaccurate? Thanks!
