Scout Bag Items Sourced
greenyone replied to dreadmaster's topic in Scout Trooper: "The Mandalorian" Weapons/Accessories
I'd say if you can make a belly pouch, you can certainly make one of these. Not a pattern, but here are the dimensions of my bag. It appears to be a 3 piece design with the sides being separate pieces from the front/back/flap. -

It's a trial and error process. Mine was originally a gray-ish bag. I washed the heck out of it, then use RIT color remover to lighten it up as much as possible. Then I tried RIT tan dye in a pot just big enough to submerge it (on a stove-top).... which turned it much too dark. So I removed the color again with the dye remover and tried again only using about 1/3 of the bottle of dye with only about 5 min. of pot time. It was still a bit dark even after that. So I just put it through about 1/2 dozen cycle in the wash with bleach added until it looked reasonably tan/khaki in color. -
I use this one too. Love it. Bought it for cold weather motorcycle riding after years of fighting with cheap loose fitting ones that bunch up inside a tight fitting helmet. Mine doubles as a trooper balaclava. And it's constructed in a way that makes it easy to pull the part that goes up over your nose down around your chin for easier breathing when you take off your bucket at break time.

Could probably just use something like this. https://www.amazon.com/EasyPSV-Permanent-Adhesive-Sheets-Graphite/dp/B079SWJLCY/ref=sr_1_10?crid=2XSZR0CWPDSTQ&keywords=grey+vinyl+cricut&qid=1581345476&sprefix=grey+vinyl+cricu%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-10 Or even find something similar in a craft store.

That new style SC kit certainly makes it more difficult to adjust. Those return edges that go up over your shoulders don't lend themselves well to being re-shaped without that lip kinking when heated up and bent. Also the new style has the strap indents formed into the chest/back parts where they meet under your armpit. So removing material there for a better fit would be difficult or maybe even impossible. That being said, (if memory serves me correctly) last year sometime I recall a smaller framed female scout builder reached out to SC to inquire about them pulling a kit from the easier to modify older kit molds. I'm not sure if that ever came to be though. You could reach out to Jeff at SC and see if he ever did that, and if so if he's willing to do it again.

I think all that matters is that it's rectangular, red and in the vicinity of being 12.8 x 18.8 mm or (.5 wide by .75 tall for us Yanks) -

It's silly that we obsess about this stuff.......but I came to the same conclusion. That opaque white light diffuser thing just looked way too small separated from the red lens. From the still images you've all made available here...it also looks like the white center button is slightly taller than the red ones too. When I first mocked mine up I used a small block of .187 inch styrene. It looked a little flat compared to the red ones, so I went back and tried one cut from .25 inch instead. Now it sits just a tad higher than the red buttons...which to my visual interpretation looks more accurate. As far as the D rings go. I just re-used the old weathered/tarnished brass looking ones that were already with the strap that came with my bag. I'm done obsessing over it. This one is in the 'DONE' category for me. Time to throw it over the shoulder and fend off the bag punchers. -

Fake it til' you make it. Who needs aluminum? Scrap styrene with a shot of silver spray paint. -

To me it does look like red buttons are sitting on a piece of black plastic. I went ahead and cut some out of black ABS with a pocket about .05 deep for the switch/button to sit inside nice and tight. -
Most typically gravitate toward the RedKap or Dickies coveralls. Probably because they are inexpensive and don't have a lot of complicated pockets and zippers that would need to be removed to bring it up to CRL standard. The modifications needed for those common ones are well documented here on the forum. If you want to explore other types of coveralls or flight-suits your best bet is to offer up a link so we can all see it and offer up opinions and advice.

Snout black...what do you use?
greenyone replied to spyder918's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
It's such a small area....and it's not a large flexible portion of the face late. So I wouldn't worry too much about it flaking off without primer. I painted my face plate too, then just went back a day or so later, masked the snout and sprayed it. Let it dry again for 24hrs and E6000'ed the greeblie on. Don't overthink it....All is well. -

I used a 1/8 3M striping masking tape (automotive) to follow the curve at the top of the snout and a general purpose matte/satin rattle can. -

Not sure how necessary it is. But scuffing up any shiny surface is always going to help promote a better bond. I did exactly that, followed up wiht E6000 and some tape to hold them in place while drying. -

Been working on one of these. The bag I sourced on ebay from a Military Surplus supplier sent me a grey-ish/blue-ish 'RAF' bag. It was considerably cheaper ($15 usd) at the time I bought it than other sellers who had the Khaki bags. I guess this is the Air Force version. I'd highly suggest anyone else just find a supplier who can guarantee a brownish/khaki bag. This was too much work to get it looking tan/khaki. The bag I got also appeared to have been modified at some point in it's life. It had black canvas compartments sewn into the interior and the straps were moved to the sides of the bag instead of being on the backside. The stitching really gave that away. You could tell it was not original when comparing to the rest of the bags stitching. Anyway, after removing the extra sewn on bits and pieces and using the RIT color/dye remover it ended up being a lighter shade of grey/blue. So I soaked it in bleach water overnight. That only made it slightly lighter. After than I attempted to dye it with RIT tan dye which made it way too dark. In hindsight I should have not followed the instructions which states to leave it in the hot dye bath for 20 minutes. A few minutes may have actually been sufficient. So I scrubbed it with a bleach paste and let it soak in bleached water over night. Still to dark. Over the past couple weeks I just kept throwing this thing in the washing machine with some bleach. After about a dozen cycles it's a reasonable sandy tan color. On to the belt/strap. It's new from Amazon and truly is khaki in color....however not even close to being a match to the now tan dyed and distressed previously grey bag. So back to the RIT color remover and Tan dye. Sorry no picture, but the darn thing turned Mustard Yellow. UGH! So back to the color remover again. Following that I tried some brown RIT dye to try an avoid the yellowish color. I only put about a 1/4 of the bottle of dye in the bath and soaked the belt in the stove-top solution for about 4 minutes...and.... still too dark. But it was closer. So I went back to the washing machine and beat this thing up over a few cycles with bleach. As you can see above....Finally a decent match. Lesson: JUST BUY A KHAKI BAG!!! -
I went through this too. Everything that is %100 cotton that has a "sheen" to it was incredibly thin and transparent. Like cheap Walmart bed sheet. I ended up just settling on something called "Drill Fabric" that I found at a JoAnne store. It's like pants material in white. So plenty durable, but not as much shine too it. Maybe instead of coming up empty at the fabric store, see if you can find a high thread count set of bed sheets that has a sheen to it...but again, it would likely need to be pretty high thread count to be thick enough.
