  1. Nick, is there a certain type of stitch that you used or do you have a close up picture of the stitching? Thanks!
  2. Yeah, that sounds like the solution. Thanks!
  3. Ran in to a bit of a setback with the flight suit today. It is rather thick and in doing a test run to see if I could fit it in a sewing machine, there is just no way that I can get the machine to work down the leg, as there is so much material that needs to get out of the way, especially when you get further down the thigh. May need to investigate any of the folks on here that are much more experienced at sewing to see if they can take on a commission to just add the patches. I really like this flight suit and the fit, and the cuffed wrists and ankles, so I don't really want to scrap the whole thing. I did make progress on removing the patch and the epaulets, so all was not lost. Back to doing more research!

  5. I could make a special trip down to Corvallis for that. Probably after the holidays at least, but that would be really cool! I should have my armor and helmet in the next few weeks too.
  6. Thanks Mickey, you're the best! Looking forward to joining the ranks.
  7. Here is version 2.0 of the possible riding patches template. Thank you everybody for your feedback and after hours (maybe a slight exaggeration) of pouring over Lancer requests, I have trimmed and come up with this: The bottom of the template would be just above my kneecap. There seems to be a good deal of variation on lancer requests as to how high up the suede would go, probably because it is covered, but I want to be as correct as possible. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks again!

  9. Hi Erik. I ended up buying it and giving it a shot. I liked the idea that the neck was already done. It does not have a sheen in person. Here is my build thread with a few more pictures of it: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=16320 It fits really well and I like that there is cuffing on the wrists and ankles. I'm hoping to have tome time to work on my riding patch template today. Shoot me a PM if you want more photos.
  10. Got some great feedback and am going to take another swing at it soon. Thanks everybody for helping!
  11. Got it! Thanks for the input. I'll hammer together another effort and see if it's better! Thanks again!
  12. Tossing this here too because it likely gets more traffic and visibility than my build thread. Started to work on my flight suit and trying to figure out the riding patches. They seem to be a bit challenging, so I'm working on a template first out of shipping paper (use what you have, right?). Here is my first effort. It seems to match the photos online but I wanted to see about getting input from anybody that knows. Please let me know your input. The top of the template is right underneath the belt that will be right at my waist line. Too big? Too small? Too wide? Any help would be appreciated. If you want me to pin them to the suit and see where they fit while being worn, I could do that too. Thanks!

  14. Flight suit came today. Thank you ebay! The size/fit is pretty good and it isn't too hot. It's a bit heavy, but that's not a terrible thing. It's dry clean only, which I would have assumed once I add the suede to it anyway. Here is my test fitting. Here is a closer image of the neck: I liked this flight suit because it had the neck collar already completed and that's one less thing for me to learn how to sew. I'll need to remove the patch and the epaulets, but does anybody have any feedback? Look good?
  15. Well, I went ahead and bought the flight suit above. I like the idea of not being flammable! Lol I also ordered and received my suede. There's a company in Portland called Tandy Leathers, and it was pretty reasonable. Once the suit gets here, I'll get started on the mudflap and suede patches. In the mean time, my armor and helmet should be shipped in a week or so, and I'm excited to get started on that. More updates and perhaps some pictures (and probably lots of questions) in the next few weeks!
  16. Phew! Thanks for the input! Comforting to know that it'll work. At least I can work on this while the armor is on a slow boat from Australia! Lol
  17. Hello everybody, Starting a scout trooper and thought I would start a thread to help me through the process. I've ordered the armor and helmet and the armor should be here in a few weeks and the helmet is probably a few months away. In the mean time, I've been picking up the soft parts (as permitted on the credit card!). I have my gloves from Wampa Wear and ordered a balaclava. I was eyeballing this jump suit and was curious if anybody has any thoughts. I'll need to remove the epaulets and the patch thing, but I like that the neck likely doesn't need altering. Any input? http://thumbs3.picclick.com/d/w1600/pict/152018276130_/New-Adult-SFI-32a-1-Certified-Single-Layer-Racing.jpg Today, I purchased the suede that I'll need and I need to pick up the elastic strapping (easy enough to find). Otherwise, I think I'll have the boots and cumberbund/pouches made but I want the flight suit first, so I can dial in the sizing. Also, I need the flak vest and may learn to sew and make that myself, which my mom is excited about. Anyway, let me know if anybody has any thoughts on the flight suit above. Thanks!
  18. Awesome, thank you!
  19. Great job! Going to use your post as inspiration for my build!
  20. I like the look of this one. Did you have to remove that tag, or is it underneath your flight suit neck? Thanks!
  21. Did you end up with this one? Looks good but was curious if the color was right or if it was iridescent.
  22. Thanks for the question as it was the same thing I was wondering and thanks all for the direction! I love this forum!
  23. Wow, going to be fun to follow!
  24. Thinking about going helmet first. I like the idea that seeing it in my display case will help motivate the rest of the build!
  25. Oh, well, that's actually great news because it would be nice to have one less item mounted in my helmet! Thanks for the info!
