After realizing that I should've been more patient last week, and that my last posts pictures where not helpful in showing what the problem was, I went and rewatched RS's assembly videos, got some good input by my colleague (namely not only looking on the top of the tank, but all of it). With more patience, and the sanding/grinding bit of the dremel I achieved something that I am content with for now. I think once I added the strapping and see if that pulls it closer I might revisit it again if needed to decrease that Gap a bit more. I know a bit of a gap is okay, for now I would still like to ask if the gap on the left side I have is okay? Right Side: Top: Left Side:

Had some time to trim, sand and file most of the parts. Just the torso and the TD parts are left to trim. Most is sanded as well. I wanted to take a nice picture with all of the parts trimmed/sanded together once all are done. However I stumbled over the back plate and the tank. I know the tank does not have to sit flush on the back plate, but somehow I have a huge gap on the left side. I tried filing/trimming of some more but somehow I can't get it to work. If I push the tank a little bit, it bends and sits flusher, but that doesn't seem to be the right approach in my mind. With filing, and where to file, I'm sometimes a bit blind, or slow to understand what needs to go in which spot. Happens at work as well. Anyways, here are the pictures. Was a bit difficult to show what I mean with them. I can make more if needed. Haven't sanded the trimlines of the backplate or the tank either just yet. I think I finally got it. Thank you for your Help and Patience Chopper! Really enjoying the filing/sanding of the ABS. I usually have to file/sand metal or wood at work, and the ABS is soo satisfiyingly smooth with so little work One side is not as much of a straight line as I would have wanted it to be, but I thought once its bent and pointing towards the body noone should be able to see that.

I took your advice, marked a pencil line with more width and even gave it more room while cutting. The Belt makes me a bit insecure, though, i now feel like i left too much? 😅 It seems like there is a clear line in these two pictures, but I feel if I cut along this line it would be way too close? Sorry for the many belt related questions, I'm just afraid to take off too much, cant glue it back on Oh and about the wonky lines, will straigthen them out with a file once I am happy about the general line. Really enjoy the trimming process in general though and after sanding the lines of the knee and forearm parts I did yesterday I tackled the upper arm and shoulder pads, the lines where I needed to trim where much easier to see and I ended up with the following, with which at least I am happy

After being really busy with work and not finding the time, I finally got around to do something again, as I am on sick leave. The recent youtube tutorial by BikerScout007 was very helpful in seeing how some things are done. It also got me motivated to do something Filed and sanded down the cuts I did the last time. And as I read it as a helpful tip multiple times in other WIP/Buildthreads, i glued some extra ABS in place so that the rivets in the knee will not put too much stress on it. Also got to do some more trimming. I have to reiterate: thanks again for the tip with the lexan scissors! Not only is it much easier to sand/file down the cuts made by them, but it is soo much easier and less scary than working with a dremel. Still need to smooth out the cuts though. However, I wanted to trim the belt, and I looked and various other belts in the CRL and other WIP Threads and I got a bit insecure on where exactly to cut it. With the Forearm armor it was very easy to see what was excess of the pull, but with the belt I have a bit of a hard time. Especially since it isnt easy for me to see where others cut. I did a rough, very rough, pencil line. Could someone tell me if this is okay, or if it would take away too much?

I am putting together a list of all the small parts I still need, like all the different widths of webbing and rivets, and I had a question about the rivets. I know all of them need a diameter of 3mm (or 1/8 inch), but I am a bit confused what Style of rivet. The only rivets I have ever used are brass rivets of which you form the head by hammering it into shape 😅 I used the search function and found this post: Comparing that to what I could find online at my local hardware store I am not quite sure if this the right style of rivet? https://www.obi.de/zangen/lux-blindnieten-3-mm-x-6-mm/p/5211198 Also: Am I correct in that all rivets that are used throughout the armor are the same style and diameter, or did I overlook something in the CRL?

Finally gotten around to try myself at trimming. Startet with the knee pads. This is how they looked before trimming: Looking at the CRL and Striders Post (http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/topic/17305-lancer-build-tutorial/) I pencilled the outlines. And started the process of cutting them. I tried myself out on some spare ABS and realized if I would have some scissors with shorter blades, that that would even be easier than using the dremel. Also, realized after the fact that we are out of fine sanding paper, so for now the edges are left rough. Had some trouble with cutting the slits and scuffed one knee pad a bit. But I think its not really seeable, especially once weathering is applied. Will have to see if a different dremel bit works better, or if i can cut a slit and then file/sand it down. Anyways I was a bit afraid I took of too much. So how do they look? In addition, I hemmed in the overall's legs and sleeves with a lot of help Cheers!

Thank you both! Just ordered both the E6000 and the Uhu hardplastic glue. Will be able to borrow my brothers dremel the coming weekend when I see him, which means I can start with the knee pads, boots and riding patches as soon as the glue arrives

Thank you for the input! After looking at your WIP Thread and seeing where you cut I applied it to my boots. That was not only very satisfying to do but I think they look much better now! Also I have a quick question about glue: After going through multiple WIP threads I come upon E6000 frequently and see that people use this for various purposes like their boots. Does it also work with the ABS plastic? So could I also use it when gluing the helmet or on other parts of the armor, like enforcing knees with extra ABS so theres less stress through the rivets? Or would a different type of glue be better? I mean yes, the labeling says it will glue plastics, but I thought asking for real practical experience cant hurt

Thanks @BikerScout007 for the advice. I simply took off the one arm pocket and left it at that. Might take off the chest pockets, or the zippers if they are uncomfortable/annoy me once the flak vest and chest is done. I worked on my boots to get them in the right pattern. @AradunUnfortunately the Zipper was going all the way to the collar. However, I looked up a lot of local work wear stores and found one that looked promising, and it was! Also ordered the boots @OnkelPaschulkelinked. Thanks again! I hope its okay to ask a few stupid questions about it? Pictures are below. Sorry for the spots on them. Didnt realize our hallway mirror was that dirty when taking the pictures 😅 The general fit seems to be okay but I might hem in the legs and arms a bit so they are a little less wide. Is the partially visible button a problem if i go for an open collar instead of a mandarin one? Haven't decided yet which way to go, but it seems to me that a mandarin collar means more warmth? Also do i need to get rid of the stitching on the thigh? And finally do the side pockets need to be sewn shut?

Hello together, I'm simply astonished with all the replies, advice and encouragement. Thank you all a lot! I looked into shipping costs from crowprops and that adds up to 150$ for the base boot. Really like that boot, but since I like the Idea of cutting the soles myself ill might end up with the ones linked by @OnkelPaschulke. Thank you for that! Also thank you for offering help. I sent you a PM I tried my local workwear shop today since I got off of work a bit earlier, but it was a bust. The Overall they had were either way too small or comically large. In addition, they only had overalls with a very visible zipper. After checking the CRL again I saw that it should not be visible. A bit bummed about that, as I was really hoping that I could try one on before buying it/not ordering it online. Especially since the options online are not the greatest. I might even end up just ordering the redkap suite from the US that most of the WIP Threads I read seem to be using. Hey, thank you very much for this! I knew about crowprops, but didn't see that they were selling these base boots. Maybe I should've looked closer when I was looking at their complete scout boots 😅 That is definetly an option. However, I thought that I might actually enjoy cutting soles with an exacto knife into the right form. I saw a build here on the forums doing that. Do you think one can be as accurate in going with that method as the boots you linked? Thank you for the input I know a couple of people with sewing machines, and I think one of them has one that is capable of sewing leather. I had hoped that they would be patient enough to re-introduce me into how to use a sewing machine properly. I think I might just be out of my depth when it comes to the cummerbund and flak vest. cheers, Stefan

Hey, after wanting to build a biker scout for years I am finally starting. I want to try and make most of it myself. Really excited for the build even if I have never worked with plastic before and being a bit intimidated by the Idea that I could easily break/ruin parts. I have an Altmanns Helmet that I bought 5 years ago, but never gotten around to actually start. I have contacted CFO/Skunky and ordered a Set of Armor from him. Even though I already have a helmet, I wanted to see if I would enjoy building the helmet as well, so I also ordered a helmet kit from him. After researching getting the EC-17 printed, I don't have a 3D Printer, and comparing prices and the process I have decided to order a blaster from blasterworks. Especially since I like the idea of it already having a magnet. Would like to build a rifle as well, and maybe even going to try and making the parts out of metal, as I could use a lot of tools from my workplace for that. Also really liked Jorge's Build of the DLT19 Nevertheless, that is something I will look into later as I want to prioritize the rest of the costume. I wanted to try to sew the soft parts by myself, or with the help of friends as my sewing skills are ... subpar 😅 For the gloves I thought of going with WampaWear or rather the replica that was posted by plagu3is Currently I'm looking into options for the boots and the overall/coverall and was hoping I could find some help with that here. Since the original shoes seem to be hard to find, I thought of finding a good replacement and cutting the soles myself. Maybe someone from europe, or possibly even germany, could point me in a good direction for shoes/boots that are available here? Similarily I am looking at overalls/coveralls right now. I usually don't like to order clothes online, as I prefer seeing if they fit beforehand. So I guess my best bet would probably a work wear shop, right? And looking at the CRL and other builds here on this forum it seemed to me, that any black overall would work as long as I take of the visible pockets that one might have, is that correct? Just saw a Facebook Post of Wampa Wear with a Picture of faux leather gloves they made as a special order. So it seems like they do such special Orders! If you find a pair I would be very interested to see some Pictures and how they compare to leather.

And to get that fifth post, and i hope its alright, I'll just make a new one for a different line of questions. So you would say that the Altmanns, in your opinion, is the best choice of the three? And what would you recommend if budget would not be taken into account? And i could try to assemble a kit, i saw a lot of tutorials not only on this page, but yeah i just have no experience at all with Fiberglass/ABS. And: What is there to say against Fiberglass? I already read that Vinyl is a bad choice as its not very heat resistent, but wheres the difference between ABS and Fiberglass (the two most common choices for helmets as far as i know)?

I saw one of them at their booth at a local comic con, but that one was weathered. They offered it cheaper a bit cheaper. Ordering one with them is 225 pound. So roughly 300 Dollars, or in my case 270 Euros. Thats without shipping, but thats not a big issue since shipping shouldn't be that much. And they're fully assembled, painted etc. Within that price range is only the SC one, as far as i know, but I am happy if you can correct me on that But the SC one isn't assembled or painted, and even if i would call myself handy in some fields i never really worked with plastic, fiberglass, epoxy or the likes. And what exactly is inacurate with the bolts? Thanks for the fast answer! edit: From What I've got so far and all the Comparison photos i would be more interested in a LW or MLC Helmet, but from what I heard the first one is rather hard to get your hands on. Hey, I'm a newbie and trying to start by finding a Helmet. After doing lots of research, through here and other pages, I found a Helmet by chance but haven't bought it yet. During a comic con i found about Central City - Chester, which is a bigger comic book, memorabilia store. They are offering finished scout trooper helmets (they looked pretty good in real life). They only said they get their Helmets from someone who is crafting them in the UK. It all seems very legit, but i don't want to make the investment before asking if anyone here has experience with them? They have a very active customer service, their pricing is pretty good and they told me that just this week they sold one helmet to a member of the UK Garrisson.
