Not sure why my photos aren't being seen on this thread now - they were there earlier? Just some kittens! Troopers haven't time for kittens!

Thanks very much, will have a look and adjust! Are the patches the same on the back of the legs as the front?

Hi all, hope you don't mind me jumping into this discussion? I'm a relative noob to this but want to get my boots as screen accurate as possible. I've managed to secure a pair of Sierra Sneakers and provided they fit fine and the sole cleans up OK, i'll get them finished in white leather. I've found a nice (described as recycled) leather about 1mm thick and with very little grain, after useful comments from ShaunPug, I think it'll be suitable for the toe part but will be too thin for the shaft. Can the shaft part be lined at all or could 2 layers of the leather be glued together to increase thickness?
-
Ah good call! Yes i was worried that this would be a little thin for the shaft so may look at getting thicker stuff for that. I think this thinner leather will just flop! I'll have a look at the thread.

Looking at real leather So i'm looking at real leather options, requested a sample and this is what i received. It's only about 1mm thick with very little grain and is almost a match to the vinyl i have on an old pair of boots. The website i got it from is a legitimate fabric site and describes it as recycled leather - will this be suitable for covering the Sierras in?! Want to do the job properly. I've done some pics with the material next to my pair of old boots with vinyl on them.

Hi all, so i've been away for a while as have gotten married and had to focus time and money on that (understandably!) but i can now get back into finishing my costume! I've bought a flightsuit, de-zipped/badged it and had it brought in a bit so not so baggy. I intend on altering the collar so it is less like a shirt collar and more 'Mandalorian' (is that right?! Below are some pics of the thigh patches that i though it would get input from before i commit to cutting and sewing. Luckily i found a real black suede scarf on ebay so have that material to use and for the buttflap. I've outlined where i think they should be in masking tape and will use that as a guide. My understanding is the patches should come to just above the knee? Patches will obviously be mirrored on the other leg! All input is gratefully listened to!

Amazing thank you for the details! I think that sounds the best way - cutting thin strips of silicon and attaching - fiddly but would be worth doing. Like you say they would have to be colour accurate. I'll check out the boot forum...

Hello all, i've found the correct place to post this now so here goes! I have had a chance to purchase a pair of Sierra Sneakers and after checking size/condition i have decided to go for it. The soles are darker than the correct version but i have been told they should clean up to the original colour. If they don't clean up, does anyone have any advice for painting rubber soles? I've also been told they would need further cuts to get to Lancer - does any one know what these cuts are...and do i dare do it?! Big thanks to ShaunPug for his input so far!

I agree, much more satisfying to make them and its not too tricky.

First attempt - any further tips/advice?

Good call, i'll take laces off and start them slightly higher up so not showing throught the vinyl. Thankyou! -
Morning everyone, this is my first attempt at biker scout boots, just need to attached the 'dog-bone' shaped piece and cut the soles to the correct patterns. Any advice or details i had missed would be greatly appreciated! Boots cost about £30 on Amazon (Men's D-Ring Desert Boots Light Taupe Suede Leather & Tread Grip Sole) and i bought the white vinyl on ebay (about a fiver). The vinyl is quite smooth and has a light shine to it (much like on the photo you see from the MOTM) and the velcro is 1 inch width. I used E6000 glue which sticks like sick to a blanket! I've attached a toggle to the laces to allow easier lacing up. Unsure whether or not to rivet it as the glue is holding it well. Thanks!

Pandatrooper's SC Biker Scout build
shoeben82 replied to Pandatrooper's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Hello, i'm attempting my first build as soon as my armour arrives (CC) and want to thank you for all the helpful tips and tricks you have provided. I'm sure i will refer to it! I am also a slim chap with 30" waist so the belt adjustment will be especially useful! Thank you and keep up the good work! -
Alternative to 3M speedglass bolt
shoeben82 replied to 42unclejoe's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
Hi, like a lot of parts, they are very occasionally available on ebay and the old headbands with grey bolts do appear on there. There is a very similar headband with grey bolts on at the moment (please correct me if i'm wrong!) - ebay number 272079571791 but is quite pricey.
