Do you suggest going with the seam or across it when applying (I know to sand across the seam)...
-
So just wanted to post a little update... Still working on the helmet. Only get to work on it during the weekends and I'm taking my sweet time to make sure it is right. Currently on the bondo stage and it is a trial and error kind of thing for me right now. First try was kind of a mess, so I scraped the bondo off and now in the process of redoing some of it. Still having fun working on it though...

From experience (I'm currently building a two half bucket) I can attest to how easy it is for that hole closest to the seam to be filled in. Bondo can be an evil, evil little thing...
-
Will do... BTW Chex where are you in relation to Orlando? Going to be down there in October and would love to try and meet up with some of the Florida Garrison...
-
Ok so my helmet from CF just came in (well it came in over the weekend)... Should be able to get started on it this weekend. Will have pictures up once I get going on it. I'm really excited for this build, one of the reasons I choose CF for the bucket was because he makes them in halves which is film accurate. It's a little more work (because you have to join the halves and do bondo work), but to me it is well worth it. Have I mentioned I'm excited?

Personally? No, I love weathering, and this looks good to me. For the 501st? I think it might be too much. The standards say light weathering I believe. But I have heard others mention it might be up to your Garrison. Not sure, but I would also like to find out how much is too much.

Thanks all, I'm going to go with Chef... I love the Altmann, but it is a little out of my budget right now. Might upgrade in the future though. I will let you know when I get my bucket and start the build.

Looking good man, Can't wait to start mine. Hope you don't mind me asking for assistance. Great to have some Scouts out here in AZ to help out. Glad you stuck with it.

As an artist I was always taught to walk away from a project if you are getting frustrated. Take a step back, go do other things, and put it out of your mind. Then in a few days come back to it, you will see it with a fresh pair of eyes and most of those little mistakes that only you could see will be gone and forgotten. I've done more than a few pieces of art that I've nitpicked into convincing myself were horrible. Then once I was away for them long enough to see them with a fresh perspective I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was bugging me in the first place.

Also just realized this was posted in Armor instead of Helmets... Sorry guys...

Yeah I would love an Altmann... Sending him a PM now... lol.

Hmmmmm, is that normal with KS? Three months seems like a very long time. I understand that it isn't mass produced, but that seems like a bit too long. I'm hoping to have my costume done before October, we are going to my brother in law's wedding in Orlando and are doing the Halloween night at Disney and I would love to be able to wear it (if not I'm going as the 10th Doctor lol)...

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. I'm buying the kit, part of the whole appeal of this is being able to build it myself. Will probably be getting the KS than, I will post up a wip thread when I get started.

So might be able to swing ordering my helmet tomorrow, I've read up on the pros and cons, but wanted to get one more round of opinions. It is between KS and SC (I will be getting the SC armor kit). I have heard that KS is better helmet wise, but it seems not by much. The big thing I see is that KS is quoting a time of 4 to 6 weeks, while SC is quoting about 4 to 5 days. So question my question. Is the KS worth waiting the extra time for?

Thanks, my hands are probably too small for the XL gloves, I contacted Wampa and he said that he is about to make a new batch in case anyone needs any. He currently only has XL and XXL left. And yeah I plan on taking it slow and enjoying the build.
