  1. The main issue is access to an original to get a really good scan or walkaround video. Looks like it might be possible in January if photography or video is allowed at the traveling exhibit (and the biker scout is there): http://www.empmuseum.org/at-the-museum/upcoming-exhibits/star-wars%E2%84%A2-and-the-power-of-costume.aspx
  2. The easiest way I know of would be access to a armor with a 3D scanner in hand. 123D Catch would be sufficient. Or if anyone had a walkaround image of the original kit, you could use a software like VideoTrace to get fairly accurate measurements and angles.
  3. This is really cool.
  4. I filled the hole with bondo then sanded it down with a fine grit sandpaper. Finished the job with krylon fusion satin black. It turned out... OK. The texture of the bondo vs the resin is noticeable, but it's a pretty small detail. I should have spent more time with the sandpaper, would have been invisible.
  5. Thanks guys. I'm going to see if I can find anyone in town with a variable speed dremel I can borrow. The boot is a Rustler Advantage Men's Work Boot Kmax - Wheat $19.98 The front of the boot was a hard call to make due to the shape. I think If I had to do it again with this boot type, I'd make it 4 equally spaced medium-width indentations. That wouldn't be correct either, but it would probably feel more correct.
  6. So this is where I'm at right now with the boots. There are a lot of areas that look kind of sloppy, and when i try to smooth it out, the blade rubber-bands and bounces on the sole, leaving small jagged cuts. I'm looking for some advice on cleaning up the carving. Was thinking of using a rotary tool with a sanding band? Problem is, I only have a one-speed dremel. Full-on i'm afraid it would melt the rubber. Curious what other people's experience has been.
  7. Cool. Regarding the greeblie and uniformity for trooping - that makes sense. Also, thanks for the link to the original conversation. I don't know how i missed that specific shot.
  8. I have a feeling this conversation has already occurred but: I've been going through the RotJ bluray, and i can't find any with the TD greeblie rectangles facing upward - or a tanker top with the small circle painted white. Whatcha think?
  9. Mine came with that same hole. The movie and all the reference materials I can find show it centered. Going to fill it in and re-drill.
  10. Really appreciate the detailed pics. Any particular reason why you didn't like the finished product? For anyone interested: I was having trouble finding the exact boots (Rustler Men's Work Boot Kmax - Wheat) on ebay and managed to hunt it up at kmart.
