  1. Got my designation today from the 501st! So ready to get out there and troop!

  2. Can someone post a pic of their shoulders? I am having trouble visualizing the cotton webbing wrap. Thanks, Juli
  3. So, I got my 3D printed blaster. I was going to use XTC-3D to finish it, but I have a question as this is my first 3D printed piece. Is the matte finish from sanding the XTC-3D sufficient or is there something else that I need to do after that to the blaster? Does it need to be glossy or is the matte finish okay? Also, what is the best glue/epoxy to make sure the pieces stay together? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! -Juli
  4. I have limited sewing capabilities and modified a RedKap suit. It looks good. I ripped the pockets off myself and used one of those to make the neck closure. My mom helped me take in the legs as they were a bit baggy for a woman's legs. I didn't feel comfortable doing the riding patches, so I made the patches and took it to a local seamstress to sew in, it cost me around $10 for that. The mudflap was pretty easy. Short version, you don't have to be a tailor or seamstress to mod the RedKap and it is not so expensive even if you need outside help. Good luck. Juli
  5. Got my armor kit and am so excited to get started on it!

  6. Also, I ordered my vest from cucblack. It should be on its way soon. You can find him on this forum too! J
  7. Hi Matt! I am also working on my build. I have wampa gloves and love them. I would pm Marcel on this forum. I really like his boots and am looking to him for those as well. J
  8. I recently started my build, too. I began with ordering a Redkap coverall and making the modifications to that. Most of them were really easy, I did send it to a seamstress to sew on the riding patch as my skills with a sewing machine are not that great! I should have that back on Friday! In the meantime, I went ahead and ordered an SC bucket and got that put together, just putting finishing touches on that now. These were good "ease me in" kind of projects before I start trying to tackle some of the other stuff. Good luck with your build and I am happy to share with you what I have been doing if it helps! Juli
  9. I used a dremel for my chin cup and I agree, it does tend to get away from you. I may try the holes and file method when my armor arrives!
  10. I have Wampa gloves and I love them! They are a great fit!
  11. I started with the flight suit and also ordered an SC helmet (which I am glad to say I have completed!). I worked on the helmet and the flight suit simultaneously and ordered the vest, cummerbund, and pouches from CB while I am finishing the modifications on the flight suit. After that I will order the armor and begin fitting it. Lastly, I will get the boots. Oh, I already have my gloves. I have Wampa gloves and they are awesome, great fit and very comfortable! Good luck!
  12. I am new to costume builds and am assembling my SC bucket. I have a couple of questions: 1. The side vents in the CRL are black, but the instructions that I got with my bucket make no reference to doing anything to those side vents. Should I be painting them with the same paint I use on the snout or is there something I am missing. 2. When I glued the dome to the back of the bucket, there is a slight gap between the back and the dome on the left side. You can't really see the gap except from the top. Do I need to use putty to fill that gap? If I use putty, is that going to cause a color issue with the raw ABS color? Or is this something I don't really need to worry about as it is only slight and visible only from the top. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Do I need to sew the elastic all the way around the leg, or just attach it to the suede patch in the front and back?
  14. I am working on getting this thigh patch template sized correctly for my build and wanted to get some opinions as to any adjustments I need to make before I cut and sew the suede. I have a front view, back view and inseam view photo. I want to make sure the patch is coming out far enough onto the front and back of the thigh and is not too close to the knee. Please let me know what you think. https://darkvadermom72.shutterfly.com/pictures/8
  15. Is this what I should be getting for the suede patches and mudflap? I have never used suede before so I just want to make sure that I am getting the right thing. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/leather/suedessplits/9122-21.aspx Thanks.
  16. Thanks, Joe! Just what I needed to know!
  17. I was also wondering if the side pockets and vents need to be closed. Does the small leg pocket definitely need to be removed as well? Any help is appreciated.
  18. Thanks, Jim and Howard! I have ordered the SC bucket and am looking forward to the build. I will def check out the build threads for tips. I am excited to finally get started. Maybe after I get the kids through college, I can look into upgrading! Thanks for the advice!
  19. Thanks, Mike.
  20. Hey all, I have been lurking for a while and have finally reached a point where I can begin my costume build! I am so excited to say that I ordered my first piece. I got the redkap flight suit and am looking forward to receiving it so that I can begin the alterations! I may need a little guidance there. I was also looking at the SC helmet kit and was hoping to get some feedback as to how good that kit is and if it is relatively easy to assemble. I will have to do this piecemeal and these are the two items that I have in my budget for now. Thanks for any advice you can give!
