  1. Yes you can have stiching. I use a straight stich on my machine. (apx 4 stitch per inch) The elastic shoukd be snug, its elastic & will strech with movement. Dont make it so tight that you are cutting off circulation. Measure around your thigh & make each elastic this size. From the center seam of the jumpsuit measure down 2 inches on each side. Place the top of the elastic on this mark & sew here. Once in place tge bottom of the elastic will be 4 inches from the cemter seam. Now sew your suede onto the jumpsuit.
  2. That looks fine, plane & simple. Im on my cell phone & can't see where your from. My question to you is why buy used for $75 when you can buy NEW from Amazon & Walmart for $85.
  3. A cheap sewing machine(under $100) from Walmart will work fine. I think they are called Brother Basic. Dont buy something that has lots of electronics. 1 or 2 knobs that has a selection of stitchs is what you want. As long as you switch out the needle to a denim 16g (10 for $3) you can sew any item for the Scout Trooper. My sewing machine is about 8yrs old & cost $90. I've made over 100 riding suits, several vest & cumberbunds & even vinyl for the boots & shipped all over the world. You don't need some antique sewing machine. Start off by sewing bare foot. They opperate by a pedal & just like a gas pedal on a car the harder you push, the faster it goes. I say bare foot cuz you can use your big toe to push the pedal. This is how i learned to sew.
  4. I get my suede from Ebay. You wanna buy 2-2.5 thickness. You can use 3 but you have to sew very slowly. Any thicker & you will be breaking needles. I normally buy a piece about 7sq feet for about $23. Punch in black suede or black pig suede. I find pig suede is easier to work with. The strapping can be found at most fabric stores. If you bought an SC kit, it will come with all the necessary strapping.
  5. The Snow Scout started out here but was moved over to Blizzard Force. I believe NavajoBro was the 1st Snow Scout & did it as a fun "project". Back in the day when I started mine the colors were different & I was the 4th Snow Scout approved in the Legion & only one on the West Coast. Head on over to Blizzard Force & check out the changes to the Snow Scout & see what advances have been made.
  6. I've converted over 100 RedKap suits into Lancer & Basic Scout riding suits. The RedKap sizing is true to a dress coat with numeric sizing 44,46,48,50,52, ect. For instance I wear a 52 dress coat & 52 RedKap coverall. For the best size go to Sears, Macy's, JC Penny or any other department store that sells mens suits & try on a few coats that have numeric sizing. Button it, cross your arms, raise your arms above your head. Which ever fits your best is the size you need to order in a RedKap. Now remember the RedKap is a work coverall & made to go over your regular clothing so the arms & legs will be loose & need to be taken in. Arms apx 1" & legs apx 2". As for the height, the Reg says it will fit up to 5'10, but I use my son as a "dummy" & he is 6'3 & the reg fits his arms & legs fine. I always recommend 5'9 & shorter go with a the Reg, 5'10 or taller go with the Long. Remember if it's a lil long on you the excess will be hidden by your boots & gloves. Hope this helps.
  7. Do you have pictures? There should be NO rivets in the assemble of the SC helmet. The visor is held in place by the 3M Bolt or "elevator screw". Some people like myself have added E6000 glue to hold the "cheeks" securely to the faceplate to add extra hold.
  8. You can use a very fine wet/dry sandpaper & litely sand. Most of the yellow will come off, I did this with my wife's kit. Or you can just paint it all & have a fresh white armor.
  9. Yes white rubber boots have not been allowed for many years now. Not even for Basic approval.
  10. Yes thats fine. Those should be black.
  11. The vest needs to overlap 2 inches. I would add 2 1/2" to each side. The 1/2" to heam & the other 2" for the velcro closure. Your ends are barely touching. It should look like this.
  12. I've seen them loose but to me it looks "cheap" i added a small dab of 2pt epoxy & glued my KS & my wife's SC. Guess its persomal preferance.
  13. My wife wears a jumpsuit. She knows to go potty before suiting up. 😆
