  1. I believe they were there on the original Esprit gloves, to store the 'rain covers'. I've seen other motorcycle gloves with these pockets and covers. In the past, I've used them to store ID, cash, hotel key, etc...
  2. Made some progress this week! I used a large sanding drum to Dremel down the 'spine': Applied Bondo's All-Purpose Putty: After the first sanding: As expected, I will have to have another putty session. I'll probably use Bondo's glazing putty (since I already have it), or buy the stuff mentioned above. Next step: the ear holes!
  3. I've conencted the main halves and shored up the interior along the seam, and will be doing the initial Dremel work this weekend. I heard of P38 Isopon Easy Sand filler, but it only appears to be available in the UK. What is the US equivalent? Is there an 'easy sand' version of Bondo? Is there a better product? (Note: it is not my intention to be hyper-accurate about the construction as compared to the original screen helmet, particularly in regards to the inside seam buildup.)
  4. For just a few bucks, I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F3WVJPK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  5. Crisis averted. Just snagged a LoneWolf kit! Guess I have some work to do!
  6. Although I'm considering the RS or another Altmann's, has anyone bought a helmet from New Image? any reviews? Any pics? Any modifications to be made? 501st-approvable?
  7. I was just going to post about this issue. Looking at my pouches, they appear too big. I'm 6ft, 255 lbs, pouches measure 6x7". Thoughts? Too big?
  8. Yeah, I agree the fill route is a way to go, but my OCD won't let it happen, especially if there are alternatives. As I'm easing back into the biker scout costuming world, I'm not readily familiar with who else is out there besides SC and MC. So if anyone wants to PM me with suggestions, I'm open with that.
  9. ...other than MC? I'm aware of his extended prep time. I currently have the 3-piece SC version. Any other armorers making a one-piece design?
  10. For my TK, I bought an inexpensive ($20) setup, QFX M-309. http://www.qfxusa.com/ItemDetail.cfm?ItemID=1296 http://www.qfxusa.com/Pdf/M-309.pdf It comes with a lavalier mic, a headset mic, small transmitter, and even smaller receiver (the antenna is a length of wire that can be tape-mounted in the chest armor). I had to buy a 1/4" female to 1/8" male adapter, but the entire setup fit in the chest plate. I took the circuit board and battery out of the transmitter and sewed a small pouch for them that mounted in the back of the helmet. I plan to use it in my Scout as well. I'll be working with the fitting of the transmitter box (or pouch) once my helmet pads come in the mail. Along with the Aker amp, my tiny MP3 player, and PTT cable, this is a pretty sweet setup, in my opinion. My only concern is being able to mount the mic in a way that reduces feedback.
  11. For those of you looking for work-style boots with the one-color sole, I found these on eBay UK: The seller is shoe_zone: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Earth-Works-EarthWorks-Mens-Lace-Up-Boot-in-Honey-Sizes-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-/281764557910?var=580768157335&hash=item419a79f456:m:mNCqVisq8vL8t3HcvXTc5Dw And they fit perfectly! More to follow as I start cutting the ribs...
  12. One of the biggest hurdles in trooping is being able to dress yourself without assistance or a 'handler'. Some have figured out how to shimmy into their vest and cummerbund, and for those folks, I applaud you. Another concern is always having the cummerbund 'droop' during trooping. We've found ways around that by adding snaps or Velcro to the flight suit and cummerbund. I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I'm going to try it for mine: Sew the vest and cummerbund into one piece, with the Lancer-required Velcro closure in the back, and a small zipper closure in the front. A separate ribbing/codpiece assembly with Velcro on the back is attached to the front of the cummerbund. Once the chest armor and belt is worn and the pouches are attached (I plan to hang them from the chest armor), any seams for the ribbing/codpiece assembly are hidden. What should be left should still pass for Lancer specs, I think. Thoughts? Please note that the diagram is not exactly drawn to scale!
  13. For years, most of us have used ankle-high work boots or the like as base boots. I've always liked the added support of these boots, too. However, has anyone used a low-ankle boot? Were they easier to put on? Any issues? I found these, similar to regular Oxford-style shoes, but a little taller: Aside from the two-tone sole (which I intend to paint) and the missing teeth (which I intend to cut), I'm thinking of using these as my next base boot.
  14. Barry, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I'm still sewing, but every now and then, it's nice to find an existing option if it's available. The other option, should I have to (ugh) sew my own, is to reverse-engineer an existing set of the Red Kap coveralls, deconstructing them and making patterns from there, using a lighter fabric for the new one. I did that for a Fett flightsuit back in the day...
