Thanks for the kind words guys (Lou, pm inbound on FB). I've still got the clone arms to sculpt for this guy and then FINALLY I'll be done. Hopefully then I'll be able to start working on a trooping version -

So it's been a while since my last update. I apologize for the delay but I've been super busy between my real world job, filling orders, and trying to squeeze in time here and there to work on this project. I've taken a bit of a break from sculpting on this project but only because I needed to finish assembling the first cast out of the helmet mold to see how everything looks...needless to say it was quite a bit of work but also very enlightening on how this helmet kit will need to be done and how much work is involved. I'm not really going to get into details with words but I'm pretty sure the photos below are self explanatory (I didn't take shots of every singe step, but you get the idea). Without any further babbling from me, here's pics. Enjoy! That's it for now. Still gotta weather the helmet and cowl (will take more pics and post them after that's done) and then hopefully in the very near future I'll be able to start sculpting the clone arm pieces. As always, thanks for looking and stay tuned! -

I eventually settled on .125 half round styrene for the edges (after discussing it with Barry...he also supplied me with the templates for the eyes) That's it for now. I've got this under primer but just haven't had a chance to take full on pics yet. More to come soon! -

Update: So after finishing up the original foam master, I decided at this point I really needed a hollow resin copy of the helmet to be able to effectively continue. Enter - my VERY first GM helmet lid (slush of course). I can't say I'm really very proud of this thing (no vent and it needed a LOT of work) and the scrap mold was a piece of garbage, but I learned a LOT from it and it got the job done...for the most part. Here's a few pics Nevertheless, I was pleased with the overall shape and size/proportion of it so that was a good thing I guess. Up next was the ever daunting task of sanding my @$$ off for the next god knows how many hours (I gave up counting, honestly) to get it as close to where I wanted it to be. I also needed to cut out the vent and reattach it, recessed. Simple enough but just a matter of getting it done. -

Here's some more progress pics for you all, enjoy! At this point, I had spoken to Barry (banzai88) and he pointed out that the cheeks needed to be corrected. I knew SOMETHING was up with it but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Onto the Rondo! Then sand, sand, sand, sand, sand, sand, sand....and more sand, sand, sand, sand, sand O.o That's it for now kiddies, stay tuned... -

Gearing up for a local con, so I decided to get a display setup ready for the 501st table. This was a LOT more work than I originally anticipated (it doesn't help that I did it mostly all in 2 days either), but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out...plus I'll have this for future cons and events so it was worth the trouble.. A nice break from the helmet sculpt too Here's some pics -

Not too much more to report. Making some headway on the dome and skirt with the foam. Had to make some circular templates for the skirt base as well as some 'step up' templates for each section as I go closer to the top Next I cut these up on the band saw to get a closer profile to work with....a bit tedious and time consuming, but it'll save me a ton of time down the road And working my way up to the dome Rinse and repeat for the other side...only mirrored of course A quick top view to check my progress...this was actually the SECOND time I had to do this grrrr due to the fact that I didn't account for the proper angles going up and had used the same circular template as I did for the base of the skirt for the rest of the pieces....had to start over from the ground up but got it right as I figured out what I did wrong. Lesson learned Then I moved on to the front brow on the right side Rinse and repeat mirror-like That's it for now, stay tuned folks...LOTS more left to do on this -
