  1. Holy moly sanding in the Austin heat is fun. Last night I got through the center section at the top of the bucket and one of the side sections next to it before I was overcome by sweat. Hope to get in another panel or two tonight. My Montana Gold Sahara Beige came in the mail yesterday but its going to have to wait until I've got the helmet back down to a nice smooth finish and a nice untextured brown on top of it. Goal is to have some brown on it by the weekend but we'll see, this is a good test of my patience.
  2. Alright, more sandpaper ordered 😅
  3. Okay, that makes sense. Should I sand it smooth and layer thin coats of brown until its more uniform?
  4. Just to clarify, does my brown look wrong in the photos above?
  5. Several days of progress. The ClearWeld work but it was so stinky and it wasn't as "moldable" as what I was wanted. Ultimately the thing that worked best was drywall putty for plugging nail holes. Tons of priming, sanding, filling, repeat and then finally got the Shock Dark Brown coat on as well. I'm unsure of the texture of the brown and if its correct but unless someone tells me I've made a terrible error then I will be doing the masking fluid tomorrow in preparation for the Sahara Beige.
  6. Got home quite late after stopping at Lowes after work to pick up some Dremel bits for trimming and some Epoxy to smooth out the 3D print line detail on the resin cast First Rough Trim with the cutting wheel before it got totally dark: Also, regarding the ClearWeld, is this right stuff to use on the helmet? I haven't opened it yet and don't want to mess anything up.
  7. Jerry's Artarama is having a big sale so I ordered four cans of Montana Gold Sahara Beige, a can of Montana Gold Shock Brown Dark, and some masking fluid. I was looking at some of the reference photos and noticed comments about how almost black the brown undercoat was on the bucket. Going to try to use Shock Brown Dark and masking fluid for the initial wear.
  8. I'm excitedly nervous to jump into my first build for the 501st. A few weeks ago I ordered a resign bucket cast from KSA Props. Unfortunately I didn't tell my partner to wait to throw out the box and I'm now short the snout and vent greebles 🤣 KSA is awesome and sending me cheap replacements. Anyways on to pictures of the cast: My next steps are to trim, spray with filler primer and sand
