I did something similar to c0wboi. However, my cardboard "box" only has 4 of 6 sides. The front/outside, bottom, and sides of the pouch have cardboard support. The back/inside and top do not. This way I am not married to the shape if I don't like it so much... I can flip it around such that the front cardboard becomes the back, and the pouch can collapse in on itself some. Plus, it only gives one big surface for keys and phone and such to rattle against. ~~Marauder

Hi c0wboi, The designation between 'canon' and 'non-canon' is more of an event by event basis, rather than anything on a general "this is an official troop" vs not. In your example, if there's a LFL troop designated as a canon event, the holdout blaster is the only weapon allowed for Biker Scouts. However, if it's designated as a non-canon event, the DLT-19 is perfectly fine. At least, I'm hoping I'm remembering everything right. As a pretty new trooper, I have yet to encounter any 'canon-only' events, and it may vary from Garrison to Garrison, but my impression is that you'd be able to carry the DLT-19 a good amount of the time. Hope this helps. ~~Marauder

Man, I wish I had thought of snap/velcro attachments on the cod. Me, I just leave the strap attached to the back of the bund, step through the loop, and fasten up the back of the bund. ~~Marauder

Thermal Detonator mounting issue
Marauder replied to Ducman82's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
There's a thread here http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?show...+Detenator+hair about how to use hair clips to attach the TD to the belt. That thread demonstrates using 4 hair clips to hold the TD in place. I did something similar, but because of the belt clip, I was only able to put 2 in place. I clipped one inside the sewn loop of the female end of the clip and usually leave that one permanently in place, unless I need to inspect my TD. The other clip I only attach after I've donned the belt and fastened the belt clips. I hope I'm making sense, but it's been a long day and my ability to detect unclear writing is somewhat worn down. :-P I apparently don't have any pictures of the detached TD on my Flickr account, but if you're interested I'd be happy to take some and link them here. ~~Marauder -

Congratulations Clay! BrotherHalo, I have a question about your statement... where can one track down Clay's Lancer submission? Is it in the Pathfinder only section of the forums? (this occurred to me only as I was typing the question) I'm not quite there yet, but I hope to be soon, and I also hope that Lancer will follow soon after. Thanks, ~~Marauder

Wow, coming back to it later my responts looks kind of snarky when it was not supposed to be. Rephrase: Witness, that is exactly what I was looking for. I will give it a go this weekend. Thanks, ~~Marauder

Witness, that is brilliant. Thanks for the input!

Hi John, Actually, you gave me exactly the clue I needed... bending a long piece of tape around the inside of the curve of the snout! I was envisioning tearing a very large number of very small pieces to do the trick, and getting a very jagged edge as a result. Moving one piece of tape a little bit if it doesn't look right is infinitely better than attempting to do so for many little pieces. Thanks, ~~Paul

Hi John, thanks for the photos! I guess the one real question I still have is... what method do you use for drawing the line? Do you use a compass (the architecture/mathematical tool, not the navigational aid) to aid in drawing the line on the curve of the snout? And how do you get the masking tape to line up along that curve? Is it just a lot of small pieces of tape, or did you make some form of a cutout mold? I'm a bit worried about it because I don't have that good of an artist's eye. Thanks, ~~Paul

Hi all, I'm getting so frakking close to finishing my TB I can almost taste it! Unfortunately, painting and decal-ing the helmet are two of my biggest hurdles left (obviously, decal *after* all the painting's done!) Which leads me to a question... what's the best way to paint the snout area of the visor black? Tape it all off with painter's tape and spray-paint? Cut a pattern? Paint by hand and pray? (Note: I'd prefer NOT to do that last one... :-P) My biggest area of concern is the top part, where the snout curves... I have no idea how to get that to be a clean, crisp line. Any and all advice would be helpful. Thanks, ~~Marauder

I noticed the same thing. MC has been debating putting together a new set of instructions. Between the reference photos and the resources here on the board, I've been able to get everything assembled and mostly up and running this fall. What questions do you have? I may have asked the same ones, so maybe I can help. Let me know. ~~Marauder

Width of MC shouler "straps"?
Marauder replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
If you ordered the complete kit from MC, almost everything you need should be in the 'mixed bag of goodies' that come with it. If you did not end up with said goody bag, I think the shoulder strap cover pieces that came with my MC kit were 2" wide and 5" long, and they were just about perfect (once folded in half lengthwise, as the MC instructions indicate). Hope this helps. -
found another potential bucket.
Marauder replied to Shazbott1540's topic in ROTJ Biker Scout Armor/Helmet
First, I will reiterate a warning I have found all over the boards... beware the 'bay. Items at auction sites can look like a decent deal up front, but upon further examination, many times they either have poor quality or poor customer service. I would also mention that I believe it's frowned upon to put up links to auction items that are not your own. I'm not sure about the links to the seller directly. Now, on to your question... Analyzing the photos, I found some things that just didn't look right. Ears (and ear holes) -- In the site photo, the holes are very very small, while in the 'bay photo the shape & location of the hole looks off. It should be rounded at top and bottom, not pointed at the top. Also, the ear border itself is far too thin. I think this photo from the gallery illustrates a good comparison: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?auto...=si&img=373 The visor/frame section -- the part that sticks out like a baseball cap visor, and the blinder-type sides. It does not appear to stick out enough from the main part of the face mask section of the helmet. It also appears to me that the corners are too rounded. The Lens cutout -- The lens area (the black part, or goggles area of the helmet) looks to be too small. It might be an optical illusion related to the previous point. Obviously, since we don't have photos of the sides or back, there could be more discrepancies. Now, let me add my normal caveat... I'm a noob. I don't own a Biker Scout costume, or even a helmet. I don't have a Star Wars costume of any kind... yet. I'm hoping to change all that soon... and I don't think I would go with this helmet. Just my 2¢. Thanks, ~~Marauder EDIT: Forgot to remove the actual links. -
Hi Pat, I would highly recommend perusing the various threads here on BikerScout.net (BSN) before making any purchase. There are metric tonnes of information available. Contact Bluecyclone, our detachment armorer. He can get you started on some of the ins and outs of the Biker Scout costumes. I can distill some of the wisdom into just a few points: 1) Do your homework! A few hours spent perusing the boards can save a lot of frustration (and $$$) further down the line. 2) Stay away from auction sites. In general the product quality is less than stellar, the customer service can be questionable, and you can never really be sure the seller you're working with may be an alias for another maker with a poor reputation. Some quality items can be found on the Bay... but they are relatively few and far between. At a minimum, exercise extreme caution! 3) When assembling your costume, take your time! "Measure twice, cut once"... an excellent slogan no matter what you are putting together. 4) Don't forget to have fun! And yes, I'm aware I didn't actually answer your question. :-P Thanks, ~~Paul

As a lurker, I've been quite impressed by Witness's willingness (and ability!) to answer just about any question posed to the boards. It seems like a great choice to me. Congratulations, Dave!
