Hello Pathfinders! Thank you once again for your support; I hope to make this the best year yet for our beloved Detachment. Due to a change in the election rules enacted last year, today is the start of the new Legion year! So Happy New Legion Year, everybody. As you all know, we have a new LCO and this week she will be busy getting her new team into place. So you may want to drop in on 501st.com and see how that is going. We have got a lot on our plate for the Pathfinders this term! First, we are celebrating our Detachment's 20th Anniversary this year. You may have already gotten one of the 20th Anniversary coins already; there will be more 20th Anniversary themed merch coming out this year. We've got six merch slots to work with this term, so we are going to do our best to make the most of them. Speaking of merch, let's talk about the racing shirts. Typically we like to do the racing shirt run in late summer. Unfortunately, due to LFL taking a greater interest in what the Legion units are producing, we had to wait an additional two months to get their approval before we could proceed. This pushed us into late fall. Then we had issues with Keepsmile not being able to use the data file for the shirt (despite it being very similar to 2018's), which pushed us into the holidays. Then Keepsmile let go of the agent that was working with us, causing even more delays. Finally -- we hit another delay caused by Chinese New Year and now all merch runs are being held up by quarantines caused by the Coronavirus. This has affected all merch across the board, so expect to see delays in everything made in China. We are very sorry about all this and all I can say is once @Shortstack gets the shirts, he will get them out ASAP. Besides 20th Anniversary merch, there will also be a Celebration patch coming later this year for SWCA! Since Anaheim is in my backyard, I hope to get to meet as many of you there as possible. Details about photos and get togethers will be coming later down the road. @Shortstack will also be getting the 2020 Trading Card run going soon. So be on the lookout for that! And of course... new CRLs! We are getting very close to completing two: Scout Trooper - The Mandalorian and Scout Trooper: Jedi Fallen Order. I've been working with @Tarrif, @StephTrooper, @The Wayner and @MrPoopie on those two CRLs and we are within striking distance on each of them. Also coming down the pipe is the Kashyyyk Officer from Battlefront 2. I've been working with @ferra and @yoshix on that one. Finally we are still trying to gather information on the Mountain Trooper. @heartstopper85 has been diligently working on one, but we are running into an issue with conflicting sources, as well as it only being available as an action figure, which the Legion typically frowns upon. Hope springs eternal that these troopers will eventually show up at Galaxy's Edge, but so far nothing. We aren't giving up though! The Forum! Thanks so much for your generous donations this past month. We are all set for this year and possibly most of next year. We have to make a few changes with the badges, which I have outlined in this post here: If you get a chance, please edit your profile and check off the Detachment costumes you have. (Go to Profile>Edit Profile>Scroll down to "Approved Pathfinder Kits" and check off your approved costumes). Eventually your main badge is just going to say "Pathfinder" so this will be the only way people can see what kits you have at a glance! I am currently seeking a female Pathfinder to join our PR team and head up Recon Fatale. If you or anyone you know is interested, please PM me! Finally, if you have any suggestions for the term, please feel free to post them below! Tip of the Lance Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader31 points

Hey Pathfinders and Pathfinders-to-be I understand that Legion drama is at an all-time high and everyone is running around at a fever pitch. We all have varying opinions on the matters at hand and that's okay. At 14,000 plus members, no two troopers are going to see things the same way. But I want to be perfectly clear about something: the Pathfinders Forum has been and always will be a haven from day-to-day Legion drama. We are here to research and build the Detachment's costumes. This is a friendly place and will remain so. I ask that while here, you leave your politics at the door and do your part to keep this a positive space. If you want to argue, I suggest you take it over to the main Legion boards. It will not be tolerated here. Now let's all remember the Pathfinders' creed, "Tip of the Lance", and lead by example. I thank you for your consideration TB/ST-8197428 points

Well as previously mentioned, the theme for this year will be the 40th Anniversary of "Return of the Jedi" and of course, the trooper that started it all for the Pathfinders: the ROTJ Scout Trooper! Every costume we have in this Detachment is an offshoot of this guy, so there is lots of cause to celebrate! Before anyone asks, YES THERE WILL BE MERCH. We are planning on patches, coins and a racing shirt based around this design. We also have several other things in the works, including a meet up in Northern California at the site of the film shoot. More details on that as we have them. In the meantime, enjoy our awesome 40th Anniversary Design by Pete Hague! We want everyone to get hyped for this year!27 points

This is a post I've been meaning to write for a long time, but with Imperial Boots releasing their Scout soft parts, it seems like now is a good time. I hope this can work as a guide for anyone making Scout soft parts. I've always believed that this costume really rises or falls based on the quality of the soft goods used. The armor pieces have to look the part as well, but the Scout really is a soft costume when it comes down to it. Don't believe me? Let us quote the creator himself, Mr. Nilo Rodis-Jamero: "If you look at the outfit, it's mostly cloth. It appears to be hard, but it's not." So you can make your armor as perfect as possible, but if the soft goods look bad, it brings the entire thing down. The key to it is proportion. If you can get the torso proportions correct, you've gone most of the way toward screen accuracy. To my eye, if you divide your torso into thirds, and make sure the main pieces fit within those portions, you'll have a great looking Scout. Check out this picture: Top third The chest armor. Ideally, the chest armor should stop at the bottom of your pectorals. In the past, some of the chest armors were too large (think KS or old SC), so that made this tough without some modifications, usually by removing some shoulder strap. But at the end of the day, this thing should fit more like a bra than a chest plate. I don't have much to say about the vest, because so much of it is hidden by the armor. Make sure the sleeves don't get bunched up by the shoulder bell straps --- loose shoulder bell straps are key. The zipties are what should support the bells, not the straps. Those are just to stabilize the bell. Middle third Cummerbund, pouches and belt. Do I need to say this? The cummerbund is a cummerbund, not a tube top. It should not wrap the entire Scout's torso like a tortilla. By our estimates at looking at all available photos, the cummerbund is between 8 and 9 inches tall. It was made from a polished white cotton in the film. It ends at the belt, and the bottom of the pouches line up with the bottom of the bund. Here are some more photos, since folks seem to have a hard time believing how short the bund actually is. And from the rear. So now that we have that clear, can I never see a cummerbund constructed like this again? This is what your cummerbund should look like: The pouches (6x5x2) were made of canvas and fit in the gap between the bottom of the chest armor and the top of the belt. In the film they have a tendency to hang over the belt, but this is caused by the belt riding up on the Scout. We say as a rule of thumb that the pouches should start 1 inch from the outermost rib on the bund, but really, if you look at the movie, the outer edge of the pouch lines up with the outer edge of the chest armor. The belt should be worn on the Scout's waist, which is the narrowest portion of your torso between your ribs and your hips, right around the belly button area. Think about where you grandfather wears his pants and this should give you a good idea. The Scout above is also a good demonstration of where the belt should be. You can see it has slid up a bit and twisted to the side, probably from multiple takes of him running after Han Solo. Bottom third The codpiece. The codpiece starts out wide and tapers as it reaches the groin area. Very little of it actually goes between the Scout's legs and it does not pull tightly against the Scout's body. It was made of polished white cotton. A fabric stabilizer such as buckram should be put inside of it (along with some batting for depth) in order to keep it from crumpling. The strap should also be long enough that it doesn't pull tightly against the groin area. I have seen a glut of codpieces that come straight down on the sides. I've seen no evidence of this in the films. They all seem to start wide and taper down in a tongue-like shape. In the film, the codpiece was sewn to the bottom of the vest. A lot of Scouts like to attach it to the back of the cummerbund or onto the flight suit. All of these are fine, but I do not advise sewing it to the bottom of the cummerbund. That's going to give you the wrong look unless you get all your proportions perfect, and even then, it will make it hard to move around. What we are are trying to avoid is the codpiece looking like a pantie or a jock strap! Finally the curved detail. It's not quite a rainbow, and it's not quite a chevron -- it's a blend of both. Basically you have two straight lines that curve at the top, and then go straight down again. The closest thing I can compare it to is a boomerang. When I made my codpiece, I drew the two sets of lines going up with a ruler, and then I freehanded the curve on my sewing machine. That gave the best result. So remember the rule of the thirds! Use this and you will be well on your way to a Lancer class Scout. I will add to this as necessary.26 points

Good day, Pathfinders! The Election period is finally behind us and we are ready to keep moving forward, as Pathfinders do. I want to thank you all for your continuing faith in me and the Command team. We really do our best to continue making this the best Detachment in the Legion! And what a year we had! Looking back at the 2018-2019 term, it's almost hard to list everything that was accomplished in that short period of time: We migrated to HostGator, saving the membership hundreds of dollars on hosting fees We got a new URL, 501stpathfinders.com We updated to the latest version of IP Board after many years of running old software We created a new email address and Paypal account to facilitate Web donations The trading cards were relaunched with a whole new look and the old cards were finally rectified so we have better records of who has what The Pathfinders United merch rollout was a huge success The Scout CRL was rewritten from top to bottom to make it even easier to follow The Kashyyyk CRL was rewritten for clarity and to finally add a Level 2 We added vendor lists for each of the costumes to make it easier for potential Pathfinders to get started The Pathfinder Trooping Awards program was relaunched with a new top level ("Ranger") with its own patch and spot on the Pathfinders Hall of Fame. Speaking of which, the old Lancer Wall was replaced with the Pathfinders Hall of Fame, featuring Lancers, Vanguards and Rangers. Our new webmaster, @Shortstack, designed a series of new graphics for the forum in order to bring it up to modern day standards The WIPs and the Level 2 applications were moved into their respective forums to make them easier to find and peruse by the membership More ARTs were created We had another successful Racing shirt run last summer And let's not forget the PATROL TROOPER was added to our roster of costumes! There are probably more things to add to that list, but the important thing to know is that we have no intention of resting on our laurels. Expect more good things in the upcoming term. None of this would have been possible without the great team of Pathfinders who volunteer their time to come on here day after day to help give a hand up to folks in need. I cannot thank all of you enough for your hard work, professional attitude and dedication. The following will be the Pathfinders command team for the upcoming term: @Dart will be staying on as XO; he's been a great help to me over the past year on the Admin side of things and even though he STILL hasn't gone for Lancer (hint, hint), his knowledge of the Scout costume is an asset any DL would want. @plagu3is is staying on as Merch Officer. No one can do Merch like John, and with the Legion's new rules on merch to deal with, we need someone who has a reputation with the LMBOs as being the best in the business. @Nexous is staying on as our PR Officer. He has done a great job at promoting the Pathfinders on our social media platforms, and his ability to work independently has been a great asset to me. Before I can say "Hey Daniel, can you post that one pic--" it's already been done. @Shortstack has proven himself to be a worthy successor to Jim, and I don't know how I could have handled the transition without him. @TK8271 Rogue Trooper and @ScaryGuy will continue to be our Shoretrooper experts and Level 2 reviewers, with Theo also helping out with Rebels Scouts. @ferra and @Grumpy will be holding up the Kashyyyk end of things, including the all new "41st Elite" Level 2 judging. @Chopper will be joining @Retrofire on Level 2 review for the Biker Scout. @M.J, @Forest Ranger, @762s, @Aliaz and @gmrhodes13 are all continuing on in their roles as Site Armorers, as their help has been invaluable over the past term. And a few staff changes and new additions: @FIVE will be joining the Armor Team as our Patrol Trooper expert. He's already been a great source of help in that Forum, helping newcomers out with his build advice, and I like to reward folks who are already doing the job. Great to have you aboard, Noel! @inkydinki will be joining the PR Team to promote Recon Fatale, our female Squad of Pathfinders. We are preparing some great stuff for Recon Fatale in the immediate future, so stay tuned! Welcome, Shaina! @Jakeputt will be joining the Armor Team, as he has been a great help on the site since joining. And once he finishes his Kashy, I expect him to help out on that side of things as well! Finally.... it's always sad to see someone go after serving side-by-side for so long. @Strider, my brother, you and I came up around the same time, always pushing the Biker Scout towards higher and higher levels of accuracy. Your passion for the Scout led you to create one of the best and most popular sets of armor available today. Your knowledge of the Scout is second-to-none and it's been great having you serve as the Detachment Captain of the Guard. But photography is calling and I know you have great things going on with that. Thanks for everything over the years. Which means that our new Captain of the Guard/Chief Armorer will be...... @Stroker! Tim has been a constant presence on the Forum for almost six years and has always been quick to lend a helping hand to costumers in need. There are not many folks who make me say "Damn, I wish my Scout looked that good", but Tim's Biker Scout is definitely one of them. And he does this while defying those who think folks who are very tall won't look good in a Scout. At 6'5, Tim towers over most of us, and looks damn good while doing so. I am happy to have him in this new role. I am always available to anyone who has questions or concerns. So please feel free to reach out to me or any of the staff if you have some. I look forward to a great year and I hope to meet many of you at Celebration in Chicago! Pathfinders United! Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader25 points

THANK YOU PATHFINDERS!! I am both honored and humbled to continue on as Detachment Leader for the 2024-2025 Term. Last term was one of the best ones of my tenure, in large part to the excitement around the 40th Anniversary of "Return of the Jedi" -- the origin point of our Detachment's founding costume. Thank you all for joining us for the festivities. I can't wait for the 50th! This year should be a back-to-basics year, with no major anniversaries (well other than "The Rise of Skywalker") and no Celebration until Japan 2025. But as always, we are ready and willing to help you all meet your costume goals! CRLs The only CRL we are working on currently is the ST Grunt variant from "Andor", and we are just a few photos away from completing it. Other than that... let's just see what Disney has in store for us! Merch As last year was all about the ROTJ Scout, this year we will be returning to a more Pathfinders-centric theme. So if your costume was left out last term, expect to see it this time around! Also, with the Legion working on a revamp of the merch rules, we are hoping to be able to offer some mainstays with a bit more regularity, like a Detachment t-shirt. We are standing by, watching as that unfolds. Videos The Pathfinders videos are some of the most popular ones on the Legion's YouTube channel. As a matter of fact, the 1st, 3rd and 10th most popular videos are all ours -- so we are making even more! This year we plan to bring you the Armor Party Part 2: Soft Goods as well as a video covering all the CRL tweaks to the ROTJ Scout since the original video back in 2020 (currently the Legion's most popular video with almost 9K views!) Staff A new term means more people hitting me up for Staff jobs Sorry folks, just like last time, the current roster of Pathfinder officers and armorers are staying right here in the bunker! I know I'm pretty good at getting my face out there, but I truly could not do it without these fine folks, so I want to take this time to put a spotlight on them all: Command @Dart Executive Officer - When I took this job I was just under 4 years in the Legion, and it's been great having Andry to lean on for some of that institutional knowledge that predated me. He's also always quietly in the background working on the website and database, making sure we have a smooth operating front end. @Chopper Captain of the Guard - Fair-minded, even-keeled and with a great depth of knowledge, Chopper has been a rock of this Detachment, and we are all lucky to have him. He's one of my favorite folks to bounce ideas off and our debates always leave me better prepared to tackle new challenges. @MrPoopie Detachment Costume Advisor - What more is there to say about the legend, the icon, the one and only Mr. Poopie? If you've got some costume that you just can't find a kit for, chances are, Justin has already designed 3D files for it. How many folks have built not just one, but TWO speeder bikes -- one of which is completely mobile? His accomplishments speak for themselves. @KOtrooperDetachment Costume Advisor - Our second most popular family of costumes has a true champion with Melody. She's an expert builder, both when it comes to armor and soft goods. Not to mention she has a great sense of design, as anyone that has the Recon Fatale shirt can attest. We are so glad to have her here at Pathfinders! @Jakeputt Detachment Costume Advisor - After building a Scout and going for Lancer, Jake single-handedly breathed life back into one of our oldest costumes, the Kashyyyk Trooper. After we lost Grumpy and Ferra, Jake picked up the ball and ran with it, spurring new folks to start building Kashyyyks again. I'm really going to be leaning on him in 2025, when the Kashyyyk turns 20 years old! @Hask Detachment Costume Advisor - Hard to believe, but before joining Pathfinders, Kris was just a soft costume guy. But something about the Patrol Trooper spoke to him and he embraced it and Pathfinders whole-heartedly, becoming one of only two folks to have Level 2 as a PT. He's also become a Lancer Scout, so he knows his stuff. Also helps that he's been Pathfinders' LMO rep, which has been a real boon when writing CRLs! @plagu3isMerchandise & Branding Officer - John, my brother, one of the Pathfinders I've known the longest, and someone I speak to every day. You have been a genius at taking whatever crazy idea I have for merch and turning it into a reality. The spinning 20th anniversary coin is still one of my favorite things. I can't wait to collaborate with you this term! @Minimo Public Relations Officer & Armorer - Joe started out as one of our Shoretooper armorers, as we recruited him as soon as we realized what a great builder he was. But when I put out the wanted sign for a PR officer, he answered the call and really delivered. PR is something I never need to worry about, as Joe does a masterful job of keeping our social media going every single day! So many times I see a photo I want posted, only to find out Joe has already done it. Kudos, man. @Jennk182 Public Relations Officer - Jenn has been a leader in the Detachment, both in PR and in running Recon Fatale, the fireteam for the women of the 501st Pathfinders. Besides keeping Recon Fatale's social media populated with great photos, Jenn has also taken the lead in making sure RF is represented with some of the best merch around. Though she got a little tied up with the birth of the Imperial Scottish Garrison, Jenn is back for more in 2024! Armor Team @Retrofire Armor Team - Pete is the definition of "overqualified" Besides having previously held the position of Captain of the Guard, Pete was my rival for DL back in 2018. He knows his stuff, and though some real world concerns have kept him from spending as much time here as he would probably like, I am glad to have him here when he is able. @Aradun Armor Team - Enthusiastic, caring and selfless, Dennis has made a big impression here since joining the Detachment in August 2020. When a new position on the Armor Team opened up, it was a no-brainer. A lot of people owe the ease of their builds to Dennis, and I'm happy to have him on the team. @Ruthar Armor Team - Taylor, besides being GCO of NER Garrison, is a very involved builder, serving roles in many different Detachments. Here at Pathfinders, his specialty is the Patrol Trooper, and he is one of only two Pathfinders to have reached "CHiPs" status with his build. A great asset to the team. @M.J Armor Team - Kelly, or as I like to call her "the night shift", is often on the forum while those of us in the US and Europe are tucked in our beds! When it comes to soft goods, which is a HUGE component of the Biker Scout, Kelly is second-to-none, and I am so glad that she is still here as one of, if not THE longest serving member of the Armor Team. Well that is all for now! Let's get those buckets on! Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader24 points

After the past few years of doing Pathfinders PR as head of Recon Fatale, @Jennk182 has decided to step down so she can concentrate on other things! I'm sure she has her hands full with Imperial Scottish Garrison Thank you, Jenn, for your leadership of Recon Fatale these past few years and putting a spotlight on the ladies of the 501st Pathfinders! Stepping into that role is none other than @Feliscout, Sarah Silverman-Pucci! Besides being a 15 YEAR member of the 501st Legion as of 2024, Sarah is also one of the very few Pathfinders to have reached Ranger status. Her enthusiasm for the Pathfinders and Recon Fatale made her a natural pick to be its new chief! Sarah will be in charge of the Recon Fatale social media, so if you have pics you want shared, she is the Pathfinder to talk to! Let's give a big hand to Sarah and Jenn!23 points

You asked for it and we delivered! The Armor Team has compiled all our favorite production reference photos into one easy to find place -- the "Scoutopedia"! No more will you need to scour the forum threads for the "one photo you saw 3 years ago" -- now they are all available at your fingertips. We've divided them into categories so it's easy to find a production reference for the portion of the costume you are working on. This is a work in progress -- more photos will be added as we come across them. And description text will be added to each category to help zero in on the details the photos are showing. For now we are only sticking to production Scout photos -- so references from the filming of "Return of the Jedi". If you're looking for build techniques and the like, there are plenty of references to be found in the WIP portion of the Scout Armory. If this goes well we will try to add reference libraries for some of our other costumes in the future! You may find the link to the Scoutopedia in the "Browse" menu of the title bar. And here is a handy link to take you right there: http://www.501stpathfinders.com/scoutopedia.php23 points

Attention all Pathfinders! The nomination period has ended for Pathfinder DL with no additional candidates. This means that our current DL will continue in his assigned role. Congratulations to Mickey Bukowski (Bikerscout007) Pathfinder Detachment Leader for 2022!23 points

Hey Aaron, Glad you brought this up because it gives me a chance to address this issue. Like you, I am really unhappy with the appearance of the Scouts in "The Mandalorian." Though I've heard over and over that the reason is "it's 5 years after the Empire! Standards have fallen!", that does not adequately explain the poor job of dressing these characters in the episodes. They are all dressed incorrectly in the same way, which means there is some uniformity to what they are doing -- it's just wrong. I think people need to keep in mind that although this is official LFL product, the costume department of this (relatively) small budget show is nowhere near the level of the costume department of the films. So to treat the films and this show as equals is a bit of a shaky argument in my eyes. However, the show IS canon and we have to deal with what we are given. I've decided to go forward with a separate CRL for "The Mandalorian" Scout, because if the Detachment doesn't do this, Scouts on their own will start dressing like this and if we complain to local GMLs we'll just get pushback like "well on the show there's a gap between the bund and the chest armor, so it's canon." The only way to protect the high standards of the ROTJ Scout is to separate "The Mandalorian" Scout from it. Honestly, I was hoping it would just go away and we could forget about it, but there's too much interest in it. There are plenty of screenshots and it's a canon source. So even though myself, you and many others are very unhappy with how this costume was portrayed on the show, I have to recognize that portions of our membership do have interest in it for whatever reason. Now for folks wanting to do "The Mandalorian" Scout, please understand that this is not going to be something that's just as easy as turning you knees over and pulling your bund down and then BOOM -- new costume. There are some fairly significant differences in both the armor and soft goods. The heavy sandtrooper-type weathering of the Mandalorian Scout is not something that would be admissible for an ROTJ Scout. And the undersuit of the Mandalorian Scout differs from the ROTJ Scout, so again -- not just as simple as repurposing the suit you already have. The way I see it, there is a different TK for each film it appears in, all with their own requirements. Same with Vader. This will be no different. This is a different costume with different requirements that will need to be carefully adhered to as any other 501st costume would be. So anyone wanting to do this will need to take it as seriously as any other CRL. It's not just turning your knees over. But rest assured, the standards of the ROTJ Scout are not being lowered at all. We've come way too far in these last 5 years to let some poor costuming choices affect our Detachment's most popular costume.22 points

I want to thank the membership for entrusting me with another term as your Detachment Leader! This past term was one of our best ever, with the 40th Anniversary of "Return of the Jedi" and our Detachment's centerpiece costume: The ROTJ Biker Scout! 2024 looks to be a quieter year, with no Star Wars Celebration or major CRL coming down the pike (though Disney may always surprise us!) But there is still a new CRL to finish up (the Andor ST Grunt), the long awaited Part 2 of the Armor Party video, a renewed push on the Patrol Trooper, and preparations for our next big anniversary in 2025: the 20th anniversary of "Revenge of the Sith" and the Kashyyyk Trooper! The Legion will be busy with elections for the next few weeks, and I invite you all to participate in the ones you are eligible for, whether it's asking questions or just reading what the candidates have to say and making informed decisions. The new term will begin on February 19th, so get your speeder bikes ready!21 points

Okay folks, this is the big one! There is far too much involved here for just a write up, so I made this handy video to explain the new change in the CRL concerning the collar of the flight suit: EDIT: For those interested, this is the dickie I bought on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HNFZ3Z6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details21 points

Greetings and salutations to all Pathfinders and soon-to-be Pathfinders! Today marks the beginning of the new Legion term, and I am pleased to once again be leading the best Detachment in the Legion for another year. I want to thank everyone from Command all the way to the latest Pathfinder to be approved for your trust and support in my tenure. Maybe it's my IT background, but I have always seen my role as one of service, not power. Everyday I and the rest of the team work on ways to make your experience here faster, more informational and most of all, pleasant. I hope you all have enjoyed the Scoutopedia as well as some of the videos I have done the past two years. I plan on making another big video this year, so stay tuned! Now for the nitty gritty! By all accounts, Star Wars Celebration is still on for May 26-29, 2022 in Anaheim. I look forward to seeing many of you there. I'm sure I'll be able to spot you by those swanky new racing shirts! We of course will be organizing a group photo, so I hope to see you all in your gear for that. As for get togethers -- I've always been more for informal meetups rather than over produced (and costly) affairs, but I will get with local Garrison folks and see what sorts of things are in the planning stages. There seems to be a lot already going on with Disney Nights so I'm not sure how much breathing room there is in the schedule. CRLs -- at our local armor party last weekend I got to check on the progress of our guy building the Treadspeeder and things are really coming along! Boots have been painted white, leg armor has been crafted from scratch, and an FOTK kit with gaskets has already arrived. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I expect this one to come along in the next few weeks. And if Raj hits a snag, I know @Ruthar is also working on his. With "Andor" and "Obi-Wan" coming this year, I expect we may see some more Pathfinder CRLs in the future. With the rate at which Disney+ is cranking out episodes and their generally haphazard regard for the costumes, we may find ourselves in a situation where we need to make a main Disney+ variant (Scout, Shoretrooper etc) with several different tabs for options. The ROTJ Scout, however, will always be walled off from things that happen on these shows. There has been a movement in the Legion toward protecting the OT costumes, and I am 100% in support of this. Merch! With a new term that means our 6 slots for the year have been renewed. And as promised, I am going to start with the t-shirt. First step will be to coordinate with the Legion, as we want to use the same vendor the Legion used for its T-shirt run. Apparently this vendor has the ability to mail the shirts to the recipient directly, without the use of a third party (ahem....me!) to coordinate the shipping. They do not do racing shirts, before anyone asks! Since it has been a few years, we will be doing a run of the main Pathfinder logo in patch form. In other words, the Biker Scout helmet. I know several folks have been asking for this and we thank you for your patience and understanding. With variants no longer being available to us, we have prioritized designs that feature several costumes, so as to leave no Pathfinder behind. But we love our main logo as much as the rest of you, and it's time to crank those out again! And I still have one more big idea in the works for this year, but it is in the early planning phases, so stay tuned! Finally, I'd like to announce that @Hask has been promoted from Armorer to Detachment Costume Advisor for the Patrol Trooper. That area of our Detachment keeps growing and we need someone dedicated to it. We understand that there have been issues with obtaining a PT kit, so I've assigned @MrPoopie to work with KB Props to get another maker involved. KB was a huge help with the Mountain Trooper and he works fast, so we hope this is something that can be made available soon. That's all for now, Pathfinders! Pathfinders Lead the Way! Hey Pathfinders I'm really excited about this! We just got approval from the Legion for Pathfinders Certificates of Achievement. They will be issued to any Pathfinder who makes it onto the Hall of Fame -- so either by achieving Level 2 with their costume or becoming a Ranger. I will send you your Certificate as a PNG file for you to have printed or to post on Social media. I won't be sending out physical copies at this time, sorry! I'm going to issue a Certificate to anyone who made it to the Hall of Fame under my tenure (so since 2018) automatically. Anyone prior to that, I will happily send you one if you PM me. I spent the past weekend painstakingly going through every Lancer application since 2007 to get the names of all our current Lancers and when they were awarded the rank. I've also updated the Hall of Fame and moved quite a few troopers down to the Retired Armors section. Please allow me some time to get caught up to the present. By my count I have had 49 Pathfinders reach the Hall of Fame on my watch (that are still active and not retired). So it might take me a minute. And please make sure your email info is up to date! Tip of the Lance!21 points

Hey Pathfinders It is a dark time for the Empire. We are all living in circumstances that none of us could have foreseen just a year ago and it's affecting every aspect of our lives -- including the mission of the 501st Legion, as troop after troop gets cancelled. We aim to keep the Pathfinder forum a friendly place, and with many stuck at home, now seems as good a time as any to work on your armor builds. Whether you are trying to get approved, or upgrade your current Pathfinder kit to Level 2, we are here for you. So start those build threads and let's see what you are working on! Our Level 2 review teams are on hand to review anyone going for Level 2, though we may not be able to move as fast as we always do. If you are going stir crazy at home and just need to blow off some steam, the Barracks are a perfect place to post some jokes, pictures of how you are coping or just reaching out to other Pathfinders http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/17-the-barracks/ I've been reading about this virus in the news and keeping up with events both here and abroad. I'm not a medical doctor or an epidemiologist, but my attitude is to act like I already have it and everyone I encounter has it. Keep folks at a distance of 6 feet, minimize social encounters and try to stay indoors. We don't want to lose any Pathfinders during this episode! The World Health Organization has information about COVID 19 here: https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus And remember, those Pathfinder buckets are not N95 certified! Stay safe out there Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader21 points

Hey Pathfinders, First, thanks for your continuing support of my tenure as your Detachment Leader. It's been a thrill leading this Detachment and we have a lot of fun stuff coming up in the next term: new CRLs, Star Wars Celebration Anaheim and the 20th Anniversary of the Pathfinder Detachment! Because of changes in elections that passed earlier this year, the new term starts on February 17th. So for the next two weeks we'll be doing some behind the scenes clean up of our forum so we can start fresh for the new term First, the Legion has automated the process of checking active membership against the Detachment database. This helps the Legion decide who is and isn't eligible to participate in Detachment elections every term. In case you didn't know, Detachment membership is contingent on a few things: you're an active, trooping member of the 501st; you have an approved Pathfinder costume; AND you have logged into the forum at least once within the calendar year of the term. If you haven't done this last thing, you will be automatically marked as "Inactive" as far as Detachment membership is concerned and ineligible to vote, even if you have a costume and are not Reserve or Retired. If you ask any Detachment Leader what their least favorite part of the job is and their answer isn't "maintaining the Database", that means they probably haven't been maintaining it! After years and years of neglect, @Dart and I finally buckled down and over several days cleaned it up so we are now in perfect sync with the Legion. I can't thank Dart enough for all his hard work on this. It is not fun going through every non-syncing account and finding out what was wrong with it, but we have finally untangled that mess and are ready to move forward. There were two big issues that were causing the vast majority of non-syncs. The first was that people entered in extra characters in their "501st Designation" field on their profiles. The only thing that should be there is your TK-ID number. No prefixes, just the digits. If you are a 3 or 4 digit, do not enter any leading zeroes. Just the four or three digits that were assigned to you. We've gone through and cleaned all that up. You're welcome Second -- we have too many groups! This set up was fine when we just had two costumes, but now that we have more costumes (with more on the way!), it's getting to the point where it's going to be impossible to give every costume its own badge and forum grouping. So going forward, all approved Pathfinders will be put into a group called "Pathfinders" and will get a badge reflecting the Detachment as a whole. BUT -- we still want you to be able to show off what costume you have on your forum profile. If you go to Edit your profile now, you will see a new feature: "Approved Pathfinder Kits". There you can check off which Detachment costumes you have and these will display on your forum profile (you can look at the info in my post as an example). This also allows you to show when you have more than one Pathfinder costume, something we weren't able to do before with the old badges. This process will take some time and will happen over the next few weeks. Please reach out to me, @Dart or @Shortstack if you have any questions. Whew! Now second, because our domain has come up for annual renewal, I've decided to transfer our domain to the same company that hosts our website (HostGator) so that everything is in one neat place. There may be some brief forum outages while the transfer is finalized, so please be patient! If you need to reach Command, you can always find us via the Detachment's Facebook page. Tip of the Lance! Greetings Pathfinders! Thank you once again for allowing me to continue to serve you all as Detachment Leader of the Pathfinders for the coming term. And what a fun term we have coming up! 1. The 20th Anniversary of "Revenge of the Sith" ROTS turns 20 this year, which means so does the Kashyyyk Trooper! The 2nd CRL of our Detachment, the Kashy has had a small but steady following here since 2006. We've always had between 50-60 Kashys at any given time, but with more propmakers offering Kashy parts, now is the best time to get into this CRL. And our Kashy DCA @Jakeputt, is here to help you be successful! This also means we'll be offering Kashy 20th Anniversary merch this year. We know Kashy merch is not one of our bigger sellers, so we're hoping to entice you all with some great design! And currently we are working on a CRL for the Kashy Heavy from Battlefront 2. If this interests you, feel free to chime in 2. The 25th Anniversary of the Detachment! Doesn't it feel like the 20th was just yesterday? Hard to believe but we are now in year 25 for the Pathfinders. From a Yahoo group to the mighty forum we are today, the Pathfinders have come a long way! And we'll be offering some commemorative 25th Anniversary merch this term to celebrate. 3. Celebration Japan! 18-20 April 2025 is almost here and we can't wait to see the Pathfinder group photo! I unfortunately won't be there this time around, but I will be jealously viewing all your photos. If anyone is interested in helping organize the group photo, please let me know and I will assist any way that I can. 4. New CRLs? We've already seen Scouts in the "Andor 2" trailer, so there's a good chance we'll be seeing a new CRL for them (unless they are just CGI copy-pastes from "The Mandalorian"). We are also working on the above-mentioned Kashy Heavy. "Andor" is also known for being very Shoretrooper friendly, so we will keep our eyes peeled for any ST sightings! 5. Videos! For the Kashyyyk 20th we will be doing the Kashy CRL walkthrough. And I am going to do that ROTJ Soft Goods Video once and for all this term! I apologize for it taking so long; the scope of it has been a bit overwhelming. But until then, we have great tutorials for just about everything soft goods related in our Scout soft goods armory https://forum.501stpathfinders.com/forum/145-rotj-biker-scout-soft-parts/ 6. Staffing And with a new term comes the usual flood of PMs asking me for a staff job. Folks, the bunker is full up with some of the best Pathfinders around! Take a look at the awesome team pictured above -- these troopers have put their time in, paid their dues and know the costumes inside and out. If I ever need to replace anyone, it will come from folks already on the forum who are showing that level of aptitude. I'll take our newest armor, @MikeRadness as an example. He never asked me for anything. He was already here on the forum, doing the work. And when someone goes so far as to get THREE L2s for their various Shoretroopers, an Armor Team spot was a foregone conclusion. Looking forward to another great term! From the bottom of my Imperial heart, I want to thank you all for your support! Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader19 points

In May 2020 I was asked by the Legion to do a video walkthrough of the ROTJ Biker Scout CRL. Hope this helps clarify things!18 points

https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Treadspeeder_Driver Folks, after 3 long years, the Treadspeeder Driver is now a live CRL ready for GML approval! This one had a long, tough road. Which I guess is fitting for this character and what he drives. First, he was part of a friendly game of hot potato between us, FISD, and ACD ("no you take it", "no you!"). Then he got caught up in the pandemic. And then went through builder after builder who started it, and then had to abandon the project. Five times as a matter of fact! Finally, at the beginning of last year, @MrPoopie and I recruited a great builder from our Garrison, @JollyRajR to finally get it done. Although the Tread is part FOTK, he also needed some custom parts, which MrPoopie designed and 3D printed. I'll be the first to admit this one wasn't a favorite of mine when we first inherited it: I'm not a huge fan of the sequel trilogy designs, and this one seemed a bit tossed together compared to some other troopers from those films. But as time went on and we got to working on it, I came around to the ol' Treadspeeder Driver, and I'm pleased to say the Pathfinders now have their first (and likely only) CRL from the sequel trilogy films. I'm hoping this CRL might be a good add-on for FOTKs who want to be able to sit down from time to time. Using their current kit, and swapping in a few parts, they could do this one pretty easily. Also -- we only did the live action Treadspeeder Driver. There is still the CGI version, who has quite a few differences from this one. If anyone is interested in tackling that, please let us know! Thank you all who made this happen, not only the folks mentioned above, but people who chimed into the research threads, like @gmrhodes13, @Pyro, @Wompet, @Hask and many others. All of you helped play a part getting this across the finish line. And of course -- I want to thank @mrrikki and the rest of the LMO team. As always, they were an absolute pleasure in helping us bring another Pathfinder CRL onto the roster!16 points

On behalf of Pathfinders Command, I would like to wish you all a Happy and Safe New Year! Compared to 2023, 2024 was a quiet year for our Detachment. But 2025 promises to be another big year for the Pathfinders, as we have both the 20th Anniversary of the Kashyyyk Trooper and the 25th Anniversary of the Detachment! In April will be Celebration Japan and following that the second season of "Andor", which hopefully has some more love for both Shores and Scouts! But for now, enjoy your time with family and friends! Pathfinders Lead the Way in 2025!15 points

Hello Pathfinders and future Pathfinders! Several months ago, a group of GMLs approached command about banning the WTF Scout helmet for approval. They pointed out that it violates the "Helmet is true to the shape of original screen used helmet" portion of the Level 1 CRL. We are inclined to agree. Command and the Armor team discussed the issue and the decision was unanimous: the WTF helmet will be banned for Level 1 after a 6-month grace period. Besides the overall inaccuracy of the helmet in appearance, we also note that it's an extremely challenging build, with many builders coming to us in frustration that they aren't able to get it to line up properly and some just giving up all together. We are hoping this decision will be good for all parties: builders, Walt's Trooper Factory, and the Legion as a whole. Now you may be asking, how is this good for Walt? I've been discussing this issue with him and he indicated to me that he was actually in the process of updating all his Scout parts. Additionally, he let me know that he has the rights to the Lone Wolf helmet, which as some of you may know, was the gold standard helmet for accuracy before RS Props and EFX came along. Now that begs the question... why wasn't he making those all along? But I'll leave that to Walt. So what's the TL;DR with a WTF v.1 (as we will refer to them going forward)? If you are already approved with a WTF v1, YOU'RE FINE. Legion grandfathering protects the wearers of already approved gear for as long as they are Active. HOWEVER -- if you sell your helmet to another costumer, that grandfathering no long applies and they would fall under the next step: If you already own a WTF helmet or are in the process of building one and you have NOT BEEN APPROVED YET, you have SIX MONTHS to get it done. So that means you must be approved by 10 AUGUST 2024. If you own a WTF helmet, but are RETIRED and want to reapply, you also have until 10 AUGUST 2024 to do so. When you are RETIRED but want to go Active again, it's like you are applying for the first time and your costume must be up to current spec. After 10 AUGUST 2024, specific language will be added to the CRL stating that the WTF v1 is no longer acceptable for basic approval. We hope this compromise works for the GMLs, the builders and Walt's Trooper Factory. If you have any questions or need any help with your build, please let us know and we will do our best to help you get it done before the deadline. Picture of the V1 helmet:15 points

Hi everyone, this is a thread I've been wanting to post for a while now. There are plenty of great build threads on the Pathfinders Forums, but I thought it might be helpful to share some tips for keeping your scout costume together while trooping. Usually these are the sorts of things you discover after you've been walking around in your armor for a number of hours! I'm not a huge person, so, when I first started trooping I found that a lot of my armor parts would shift around throughout the day (particularly my belt, knees, biceps, and forearms). After my first few troops I started modifying my scout costume to try and make it as stable as possible. Anyhow, below are a few of the modifications I made to prevent parts from shifting awkwardly and falling off. All of the mods are non-visible once everything is attached and I was approved as a Lancer with everything I've shown below. Remember, this is by no means the only way to keep everything together, but hopefully it'll provide some good ideas for all you new scouts trooping away out there. Tank -- I wanted to make it look like I was using the 1/2" elastic strapping to keep the tank on, just as was done on screen, but I wanted to make it a bit more stable. My 1/2" elastic strapping attached to velcro on the inside. Also, for stability, I anchored 2" velcro strapping on the inside of the tank, and attached it to the back armor. Undersuit -- I sewed 2" hook velcro onto on the knee, bicep, and forearm positions of my undersuit and and placed loop velcro inside the armor parts. In order to find the proper positions to sew the velcro, I put my armor parts on and then marked where they were in chalk. This meant I wouldn't have any velcro sticking out awkwardly when the parts were anchored on. I know that some folks add stirrups to the bottom of their pant legs. I tried it, didn't like it, and ended up sewing boot blousers to the bottoms of the legs instead. Flak Vest -- I sewed 2" hook velcro on the front of the vest and loop velcro on the back of the cod. My vest is a little bit longer than most, but you could easily do this mod on your undersuit as well. The end of the 2" elastic coming off of the cod attaches to the back of the vest. The front of the cod has a large strip of hook velcro for anchoring the front of the belt. As I mentioned, my belt was constantly slipping down, so this keeps it in place. The corresponding loop veclro is mounted on the triangle portions on the inside front of the belt. Also note that my 2" webbing on the belt extends much further beyond the single rivet on the inside. I velcroed the webbing to the inside of my belt in order to take the load off of the rivet, which is a known stress point. The vest also has hook velcro to attach the bund just underneath the armpit level as well as two small pieces of velcro on the upper chest to hold the front armor in place. The velcro tab on the back of the bund attaches to the back of my belt and helps keep it from slipping down in the back. Pouches -- I added some velcro behind the pouch and on the bund to keep them from flopping around. Belt and Detonator -- I used velcro to affix the det to the back of the belt. Of all the mods I added, this is the one I'd probably do differently. The velcro makes it difficult to slide the det on the back of the belt and, although it's not going anywhere, it's also a pain to get on. Boot Holster -- Probably one of the most common issues is keeping your boot up when you've got a pistol in the holster. Try this -- before you rivet the holster onto your boot, sew an elastic boot blouser to the vinyl. This will help anchor it in position to your leg and prevent the dreaded boot droop! And that's it! Hopefully this will be helpful and useful for all you scouts out there. I realize some of this may be overkill, but you can take what you need, and leave the rest. Thanks and keep trooping! THANK YOU PATHFINDERS! It seems that after 5 years, you all aren't sick of me yet. I want to thank you all for allowing me to continue on in the role of Detachment Leader -- and especially for such an important year to the Pathfinders: the 40th Anniversary of "Return of the Jedi". Every costume in this Detachment has spiritual lineage going back to the ROTJ Scout Trooper, so it's wonderful that we get to celebrate the trooper that started it all. We didn't want to waste any time getting the 40th Anniversary celebrations underway, so most of our plans for the year have already been laid out: you've seen the 40th anniversary design that will be used for a lot of the merch this year. We also have our June 3rd meeting at Cheatham Grove (in coordination with Golden Gate Garrison and the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission) -- and at the end of the year we are still pushing for a huge turnout of Scouts (and other ROTJ kits) for the Hollywood Christmas Parade, which I believe will be November 26, 2023. Coming up in April, Celebration Europe returns to London for the first time since 2016! And though I will not be able to make it this time around, we will still have a Pathfinders photo scheduled after the main Legion photo on Saturday 8 April at 12PM. I can't wait to see you all in gear in London! https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=249&t=112007 CRLS! We finished out the last term with the Treadspeeder Driver from "The Rise of Skywalker", a CRL that had been many years in the making. Right now, the only potential CRL in the works is the Shoretrooper from "Andor". The biggest issue with that one is just nailing down the right shade of blue! But with a full slate of Disney+ shows coming in 2023, I will be watching with notepad in hand, ready to see any potential CRLs that would be a good fit for the Pathfinders. And along with any new CRLs, I will, of course, be doing videos this term. My plan is to do an updated ROTJ Scout CRL video, with an emphasis on the build process. Additionally, because we have the 5 year anniversary of "Solo" in May, a Patrol Trooper CRL walkthrough is also in the works! We know a lot of you want to build a Patrol Trooper, but have been stymied by the lack of jacket makers. We have been working with Crowprops to see if Gio can offer one. We hope to be able to help in this area soon. MERCH! Most of the merch this term will revolve around the ROTJ 40th Anniversary, using the logo Pete Hague designed for us. I am really thrilled about the response to the Pathfinders Baseball Jerseys, but I promise we will do another racing shirt this term! STAFFING! Every year around this time, I get messages from various folks along the lines of "Hey, I'm not doing [FORMER LEGION JOB] anymore, so if you need any help over at Pathfinders, I'm willing to join Command!" All these offers are appreciated, but there's a few things I should address about this: 1. My number one criteria for adding anyone to staff is this: DO THEY PARTICIPATE ON THE FORUM? Are they on here everyday, doing the work? When someone says they want to join the Detachment, first place I head is here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/leaderboard/ I can see at a glance who has the most posts and who is getting the most upvotes. I will always reward folks who are here day in and day out over folks who just want to pad out their resume or get access to Command merch (and folks -- it's been years since we've done Command exclusives, so you're barking up the wrong tree!). If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times -- there's a massive difference between trooping in a costume and building one. If you troop for your Garrison a lot and put in a lot of time doing events -- that's probably where you should offer your services! Detachments are about writing, research, and staring at screenshots until you go cross-eyed. Trooping has very little to do with what goes on here. 2. Do they have unique knowledge? I've got plenty of ROTJ Scout experts. That's not an area that needs bolstering. Usually when a new Armor Team member is added, it's because they are servicing one of our other costumes, like the Patrol Trooper or the Kashyyyk. Or they are doing a special job -- like PR. We got plenty of folks that can say "Yup, that codpiece looks good" already! 3. Is there a need? I don't add staff just to add staff. And this term for the first time there's been no turnover. For some reason, all these nuts want to stay in the nuthouse So while I appreciate the offers, at this time, the Detachment is in good hands. Well that's all for now! I look forward to another fun year! Mickey Bukowski TB/ST-81974 Pathfinders Detachment Leader (2018-Present)15 points

And for new Detachment Costume Advisor.... Command would like to extend its congratulations to Justin @MrPoopie Hartwell (TB-36000)! Besides attaining Lancer very soon after being approved back in 2016, Justin has made numerous contributions to the Detachment both as an Armorer and our resident 3D printing expert. He has contributed to many new Pathfinder CRLs -- as often when we don't have a maker for a specific part, Justin will 3D model it, print it, and get it off to the builder in record time! He has expertise with the ROTJ Scout, the JFO Scout, the Patrol Trooper, the Mountain Trooper and the soon-to-be-complete Treadspeeder Driver. To say he's qualified would be an understatement -- and a severe understatement once you also add in his experience as a builder of 74-Z Speeder bikes! As DCA, Justin will be assisting builders of a great many of the Detachments costumes, as well as helping with Lancer review. Let's all congratulate Mr. Poopie!15 points

Hey Pathfinders Well this year was certainly interesting, wasn't it? The cancellation of Celebration, the inability to troop and the disaster of the 2019 racing shirt run certainly added to the perception that 2020 was a dumpster fire year, best forgotten. But before we turn the page to 2021, I would just like to appreciate some of the positive things that happened in the Detachment this year: --We doubled the number of CRLs in our roster this year, and for the first time added costumes from the period after "Return of the Jedi". --On May the 4th we held a virtual troop that raised hundreds of dollars for Make-a-Wish --We held our first virtual armor parties over the internet, something I want to see continue in the future --A large variety of 20th Anniversary merch went out this year, including our spinner coin, the regular 20th coins and patches, the relaunched trading cards and finally the recently concluded 2020 racing shirt run --And most importantly, we've continued to grow, adding more and more Pathfinders to the Detachment and pushing everyone toward the excellence we have a reputation for having. I know these few things seem small in the face of Covid 19, and I don't want to minimize the experience of anyone who has either had it, or lost loved ones to it. But I think putting a spotlight on the things that went well this year can help us all appreciate what makes it worth getting out of bed for every morning. I'm here everyday because I love Star Wars, the Pathfinder costumes, and helping you all reach your goals. I bet some of you are here for the same reason. I hope this place has been a light for you all as it has been for me in 2020. Happy New Year from my family to yours! TB/ST-81974, ID-81117 and CLOR 468614 points

If you’re a prospective scout looking to buy your first armor kit, or a ROTJ Lancer Scout applicant, then it’s important to be aware of the different vendors who produce the ROTJ Scout Armor kit. Most vendor kits can be viewed here, in the "Ultimate Armor Comparison" thread. When it comes to a ROTJ Scout Level 2 (Lancer) review, the Armory Team is checking to make sure that the armor parts are generally accurate to what was depicted in the Return of the Jedi. As with approvals at any level, simply having an accurate kit is only part of the battle -- the kit must also be properly constructed and fitted correctly. In order to help clarify and inform prospective ROTJ Lancer Scouts on the armor types that are considered Level 2 accurate, the Detachment is providing a list of known accuracy issues, categorized by vendor. We have determined that the items on the following list are not considered accurate enough to clear "out of the box" but, in some instances, they can be modified to meet Level 2 accuracy. The following list has been compiled by the Detachment Staff and ROTJ Scout Armory Team. If you have any questions at all, or other concerns about clearance, please feel free to reach out to one of our friendly Scout Armorers! IMPORTANT NOTE: Just because an item isn't on this list doesn't mean it meets Level 2 standards. We can't evaluate every piece of gear offered by makers. We only list the items that we know have issues as a service to our membership. ALWAYS CHECK THE LEVEL 2 STANDARDS TO SEE IF YOUR ITEM MEETS THEM FIRST. Kropserkel: Belt - improper shape, oversized Chest Plate - improper shape Drop Boxes - improper shape, oversized Knees - improper shape Shoulders - improper shape Holster - improper shape Detonator box - symmetrical MLC: Helmet - improper shape; vent holes in upper snout detail would need to be filled in, sanded flush, and covered with the correct decal Cybercraft: Helmet - improper shape, incorrect eye cutout, incorrect visor shield thickness WTF (V1 kit): Biceps - improper shape Helmet - improper shape Knees - improper shape Shoulders - improper shape Tank - improper shape (only for the original tank with the molded ridge) Tank Topper - improper shape, oversized Detonator box - symmetrical Mon Cal/Far Away Creations: Detonator box - symmetrical Helmet - helmet has 9 rear indents, 7 or 8 are specified in the CRL, so one will need to be filled in 3D Prints: 3D printed scout parts can vary widely, depending on the model used. We recommend that you check with the Armory team first for verification. Soft Goods: Keep Trooping (formerly known as Imperial Boots): Coveralls - the older mandarin collar coveralls use a faux suede riding patches and flap; current open collar version uses real suede which is ok Bund and Cod - depending on the version, uses canvas or twill fabric, as opposed to smooth white cotton fabric Pouches - pouches are "yellow"/"beige", when they should be "off-white" Boots - "Biker OT" boot dogbone is improperly shaped, horizontal stitch mark on velcro tab needs to be concealed, has raised vinyl strip on rear closure, and toe strip is improper width. Note: RS Props uses Keep Trooping (formerly known as Imperial Boots) for the soft goods in their full commissions. RS Props: Full build commissions use elastic for drop box strapping. Will need to be replaced with white cotton webbing.14 points

Happy New Year Pathfinders! At the very last minute of 2023, we squeaked in a 5 year anniversary video of the Patrol Trooper CRL Walkthrough! This costume ran into some trouble during the pandemic, but now there are more choices than ever to help you get this done. We hope this video (with guest appearance by @MrPoopie) can help!13 points

THANK YOU PATHFINDERS!!! Being with you all in one of the shooting locations for "Return of the Jedi" was a beyond awesome experience! When we first started planning this back in January I thought we might have at most a dozen troopers, but between the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, 23 troopers made the photo shoot! And I'm proud to say that 15 of those were scouts! I am still waiting on the official group photos from the Film Commission (who kindly brought some ace photographers along), but this cellphone group photo actually came out pretty sweet! See you back on Endor for the 50th!13 points

Hey Pathfinders! We have gone through this portion of the CRL and have made some revisions to the language. Mainly around materials and the connection of the codpiece for Level 2. Please give it a read: Cummerbund, Codpiece and Pouches Made from white fabric and may be lightly weathered. Closes in back with 50mm (2") hook and loop fastener. Closure is right-over-left. Extends from just under the chest armor down to the belt. Front of cummerbund has 5 ribs of equal width made of 6 vertical stitch lines, centered between the two fabric pouches. Tapered codpiece has a sewn inverted curve detail. Black elastic strap connects codpiece between the legs to either the back of the cummerbund or the flak vest. Pouches are white or off-white. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Cummerbund Made of smooth white cotton fabric Polished cotton or mercerized cotton is preferred. Canvas or duck cloth is not permitted. The cummerbund is separate from the flight suit and vest. Cummerbund ribs are 1 inch wide. No visible external edge stitching. Pouches Made of canvas-type material (e.g., duck cloth) Pouch size is ideally 6 inches high, 5 inches wide and 2 inches deep. Bottom edge of the pouch flap is between 2 and 2.5 inches in width. Pouches have an attachment tab of at least 2 inches high to attach to the cummerbund. Pouch attachment tab is same width as the pouch (5 inches). Pouches have appearance of being affixed to the cummerbund by the attachment tabs as per the originals. Pouches sit approximately 1 inch from the outermost cummerbund rib on each side. Codpiece Made of the same cotton fabric as the cummerbund Elastic strap is 50mm (2 inches). Codpiece and sewn curve conforms to shape pictured in the CRL or Costumes book. Codpiece does not bunch excessively around groin area. Codpiece attaches under the cummerbund either to the vest, the undersuit or the backside of the cummerbund. The codpiece is NOT sewn to the bottom edge of the cummerbund. The main takeaways here are that the materials for the Cummerbund and Codpiece should be different than the materials for the pouches. In the "Beyond the Armor" book, it specifically states that the Cummerbund and Codpiece are made of polished cotton, while the pouches are made of canvas. We understand polished cotton is very hard to get these days, so we just ask that you use a smooth white cotton fabric. While your pouches should be a canvas material, such as duck cloth. Also the codpiece can no longer attach to the bottom edge of the cummerbund for Level 2. It would just be impossible to achieve the look below if it was: The codpiece should be attached behind the cummerbund in some way. We describe some methods in the Level 2 CRL.13 points

Pathfinders Command is proud to announce a new costume to the lineup: The Patrol Trooper, as seen in "Solo: A Star Wars Story." This CRL was the result of a lot of hard work with not a whole lot of references! As you know, the Patrol Trooper was in the film for all of 2.5 seconds -- what you saw in the trailer was pretty much it! Thanks to everyone who chipped in on the CRL thread, posting every photo they could possibly find, both from the film and from the Hot Toys Patrol Trooper. And of course huge thanks goes out to Denis Vorobiev, aka @Spiel who was the first to the finish line with his build and is our CRL model. We could not have done this without his help. I also want to give a huge shout out to Chris Reid, aka @Reideemer, our LMO representative who really helped us hone the CRL and get it ready for approval from the whole LMO team. We could not have done this without your guidance, Chris! Now, I did ask for "PT" for the designation, but it looks like the Legion assigned it "TB." In this case, it's not a huge stretch as there are massive similarities between the Scout and the Patrol Trooper. But the CRL is live and you can find it here: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Patrol_trooper AND THAT'S NOT ALL! In anticipation of the Patrol Trooper's approval, we have already prepared its very first merch run. @plagu3is will be posting up the Coin and patch run tonight! The Patrol Trooper helmet logo will be joining the rotation on the splash page, and we have a new forum banner also featuring our newest member -- designed by the one and only @Shortstack Pathfinders -- always moving forward!13 points

I'm finishing up my 3D printed E-22 and I needed to make a strap. After looking around I couldn't find a tutorial, so I'm making one. Hope it helps. These are the swivels I bought to feed the straps through: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/outdoor-connection-talon-swivels-and-toc-swivel-base-set-17ocoutlndblswvlngua/17ocoutlndblswvlngua For the sling itself, first you'll need a 1 inch nylon strap and a silver 1 inch tri-glide slider. I got mine here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HHLDYJI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BJYS23S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I wanted to make sure the strap hung down low like the screen used ones, so I used a 6 foot length of nylon. First I fed the slider about 2/3rds of the way down the length of the strap. Then I looped the longer piece of the strap (on either side of the slider), through the rear swivel on the rifle: Then I pulled the piece I looped through the swivel and tucked it in above the strap piece already going through the slider. It's a little hard to explain so here is a pic: Then lace it through the other side of the slider: Then pinched it back on itself. I placed a pin here. This is where it will get sewn: Then take the other end of the strap and loop it through the front swivel. The contact point seems to be BEHIND the main strap in photos. So you loop it down and over, not up and over. Like the proper way to replace a toilet paper roll! Pin this in place also: With both pins in place you can get an idea if it's in the right position or not: Then sew both spots you pinned down: And there you have it: a nice E-22 strap that hangs down to your waist like the screen used and is also adjustable!12 points

So i have had 4 Scouts in my 15yrs in the 501st, previous to my current build. Most were almost Lancer and i got lazy and never did the last thing or 2 to apply lol. Over the years i have come up with creative yet useful ways to do some things. Partly because my weight goes up and down like a yo-yo lol So one thing i recently came up with was a way to attach the shoulder bridges so i can just glue a strip of elastic over the seam on the top/outside and it NOT wrap around. This is something that our DL Mickey has discovered evidence of and although thus far it is NOT in the CRL for basic or L2, i still wanted to do it for my personal goals of accuracy. So this is not really anything new so to speak, but i wanted to still be able to attach the chest/back bridges with a 1" wide piece of nylon webbing but with velcro sewn across the entire length of the strip. This usually keeps everything lined up nicely, and that will be crucial if i want to put the bridge cover only on top/outside the armor. The "issue" with this is that i also want to use the zip tie method to attach the bells and would need a zip tie anchor/guide on that strip. So i came up with basically a simple slide adjuster with the anchor/guide built in and 3D printed them and they work perfectly. I should probably print them in black, but this actually works so you can see them better for detail purposes. The holes are for the option to sew it in place, but the strap with velcro attached in it fits pretty snug so you likely wont have to do that. The reason the velcro goes all the way across the webbing strip is because it loops through the slider part and will then still have velcro exposed right at the join so the "slider" also keeps it stable and it doesnt over bend at the join. Now i should be able to glue the elastic strip on top and it look neat and stay put. The files are on thingiverse! https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5929971 For the belt, this is something i did on my last build...but then 3D modeling/printing wasn't really a thing yet, so i did it with all scrap ABS pieces and although it worked well enough, it wasn't flawless and also looked kind of sloppy. So this time i 3D modeled and printed the parts i needed to accomplish my goal. The goal was having the belt adjustable with no visible slide adjusters. I created "belt loops" and stops along with slide adjusters to accomplish this by putting all of it in the front part of the belt. I forgot to take pics before i added the nylon belt for the parts to mount in the belt but i think you get the basic idea. The rivets in the belt become "mock" rivets as they wont actually hold the belt. I cut down the rivet body and glued them in place. Basically these are the pieces, the rectangle "boxes" mount under the parts with the cut corners and attach in the inside of the boxes on the belt front So mounted they go like this. You can then slide the belt under the "belt loop" on the end and into the slide adjuster. this way you can adjust the size of the belt or even the length of each piece indefinately without having to unrivet and re rivet the belt. thsi also would prevent the belt from pulling off the rivet since the rivet is just visual. As a bonus, you can use the flat part of the parts with the cut corners to add velcro to attach to your jumpsuit to keep your belt in place. So yea thats how i did it lol. Hope some of you like it! Again, if you want the files, just ask! These were made to fit the MonCal/FAC belt so you may have to fiddle with them if another makers belt piece is taller or shorter.12 points

THANK YOU PATHFINDERS! I appreciate your continuing support as your Detachment Leader for the 2022-2023 term. With Celebration coming up very soon, we already have plenty to do. And I've got a few other big ideas I'm working on for the new term! I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones in Anaheim this May, and as always, you can find me on the forum as BikerScout007. The Command Team is ready to help you meet your costuming goals. Thanks once again to the Officers, Armor Team and everyone else who make the 501st Pathfinders the best Detachment in the Legion! We've got a new member of the Pathfinders family! Today the LMO team announced that the Jedi Fallen Order Scout is now live for Legion Approval. And the First-in-the-Legion JFO Scout is none other than @MrPoopie himself, TB-36000! I want to thank Justin and @The Wayner for their hard work on getting this done. Justin modeled the new parts and 3D printed them, while Cody created the great harness used to hold it all together. I also want to thank our LMO rep, @mrrikki for his guidance and making this as smooth a process as possible. You can check out the new CRL here: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Scouttrooper_jedifallenorder If you are interested in building a JFO Scout, we've got a new Armory set up for it here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/194-the-scout-trooper-jedi-fallen-order-armory/ This is also a good time to announce that @MrPoopie will be joining the Armor Team, not only as our JFO Scout expert, but as our 3D printing expert and 74-Z expert. Anybody who knows Justin for the past few years knows he is the MAN when it comes to 3D printing and the speeder bike he designed for the Southern California Garrison has set the standard for large scale props. Well, that is one new CRL off our list! But we've got a whole pile more to go. If you would like to get involved, please check out our pending forum. Maybe you can be our next CRL model! http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/115-costumes-pending-lmo-approval/12 points

I decided to create a CRL checklist which should make it easier to track your progress when building a Scout or Lancer Scout. The spreadsheet also calculates your completion percentages for both Basic and Lancer. This was originally created for our local ART (Scout Team Six) but I figured that I would share it in case anyone wanted to take a look and use it for themselves. * Just remember to always reference the official CRL as the listings here are shortened to be readable within a spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yz5xkv-7bi9dtaeqC0fwqPtAy1m5ZUeCTEugP2rU2O8/edit?usp=sharing12 points

Hello Guys, yesterday i posted my Patrol Trooper Helmet in the Builders group on FB. I painted it for a customer of mine, the Helmet is from Armory Shop. Our fellow Member Mickey Lee asked me to put those pictures on here, so here they are. I tried to get as close to screen as i could with the reference pictures i got. Also its lightly weathered, i worked with pigments and a little bit of airbrush. I hope you guys like it. cheers Daniel12 points

Below is a review of the current Galactic Armory ROTJ Scout 3D model files. Please review this before beginning your GA build as there are many items that do not currently meet the CRL. These can be adjusted and fixed to meet the CRL with some work by any of you willing to build this kit. With all this being said we are working closely with GA and they have agreed to update the files to more closely meet the current ROTJ Scout CRL. The timeframe is still TBD but most likely it will be soon. If you are unsure about something on this list please just ask and we will do our best to help make sense of it. Galactic Armory ROTJ Scout Trooper CRL Adjustments (01-11-24) Helmet • Edges around visor are a bit sharp and should be softened. • When visor is viewed in profile there is a slight wavy curve, this should be straight. • Bolts should have a softer edge to the concave center. (Figure H-01 & H-02) • Snout Greeble is not accurate. (Figure H-03) • Helmet bolts could be separated for use of other style bolts. • Front edge of dome just barely meets up with the visor and could be a bit longer. • Snout area could be made flat to allow for other snout greebles to be used. Shoulder Armor • Top middle of shoulder comes to a bit of a point and should be more rounded. Chest Armor • Grey box area should have smoother edges to give a softer appearance. • Chest and back shoulder bridges are “keyed”. This is not unacceptable, just odd. Back Armor • Tank is a bit too shallow, should protrude more in the back. (Figure B-01, B-02 & B-03) • Smooth the curve on the area between the shoulder bridges and the sides. (Figure H-04) Belt & Hip Box • Cutouts at rear for straps should not exist. Only a single rivet hole should be present. (Figure BL-01 & BL-02) • The edges of boxes could smooth out a bit more to give a softer appearance. • Rectangles between boxes are not necessary, it’s just an artifact of pulling ABS kits. (Figure BL-03 & BL-04) • Strap slot opening on hip boxes is a bit large. It should a be a slight indentation with a slot in the middle. (Figure HB-01, HB-02, HB-03 & HB-04) Thermal Detonator • Greebles should be separate pieces. • Remove “Zip Tie” section in the middle and replace with 2 holes on top and bottom of where “Zip Tie” was. (Figure TD-02) • Area above larger greeble should not indent upwards on upper lip. (Figure TD-01) • Tube should have a slight curve. (Figure TD-04 & TD-05) • Endcaps should be flat with a concave surface. No indentation. • Rectangle Greeble is not accurate. (Figure TD-02 & TD-03) Knee Armor • Needs holes for rivets. (Figure K-01) Holster • Should appear to be 2 separate parts, the main body and the straps that go around the blaster. • The strap thickness is also really thick. Not sure what's needed for structural integrity but the actual holster strap was only the thickness of an abs sheet. • Strap should not protrude below the bottom line where it fits into the main body. (Figure BH-01) • Oval embossed area on the front of strap should be slightly wider. (Figure BH-02 & BH-03) • 5 Vents on strap should be cut through. (Figure BH-02 & BH-03) • The rear side of the holster is very angular and boxy, whereas the screen holster is more graduated. • There should be rivet holes in each corner of the holster body. Drum Roll, please! On behalf of Pathfinders Command, it is my pleasure to induct Aitor "IG88s-killer" Gartzia Zelaia (CB-17085) into the Pathfinders Hall of Fame as our very first 41st Elite Kashyyyk Trooper for the "CB - Kashyyyk Trooper - ROTS" CRL! Aitor did a sensational job with his build, with only a few minor tweaks to be made to get to the finish line. Great job, @IG88s-killer You have been sent a Certificate of Achievement to your email on file and your picture will be added to the Pathfinders Hall of Fame. Check out CB-17085's application here:11 points

Hey Pathfinders! @AradunFF pinged me the other day to let me know that @Schraeder is zeroing on 400(!) troops as a Pathfinder. That is an absolutely incredible accomplishment and one not likely to be eclipsed anytime soon (or ever!). To acknowledge Rangers that go above and beyond, I have added "Cogs" to their Hall of Fame photo for each additional batch of 100 troops attained. I will also be sending a Certificate to @Schraeder for each milestone he's achieved. Keep on troopin'!11 points

Hey Pathfinders! If you're like me, you are pretty bummed out that all our troops have been cancelled due to controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. It's great to have this time to work on upgrading kits, but nothing can replace the joy of trooping. While it is very important that we continue to social distance and let this virus die out, I'd like to invite the Detachment to join me on a virtual troop on May the 4th. Suit up in your Pathfinder costume, take a picture and post it up in the thread I create that day, both here on the forum and on our FB page. When you post your pic, please don't forget to add your TB, CB or ST-ID. Unfortunately this won't count as an official 501st Troop, but every Pathfinder who joins our virtual May the 4th Troop will get a "2020 Supporter" badge added to their forum profile. May the 4th be with you! EDIT: We've added a charitable element to the troop. Please see this thread for more details:11 points

Hey All, today, while at Disney, my son was trooping in his full TB gear when a fellow pathfinder and 501st brother gave him a 20th Anniversary coin even though we had nothing to trade. I just wanted to thank him publicly. What a cool guy! Thanks again, my son (and me!) we’re moved by it. Love the 501st!11 points

Hey Pathfinders and soon-to-be Pathfinders! After popular demand, we have moved the Level 2 application forums out from behind the Pathfinder wall so that any Pathfinder Detachment member may see them. We had several requests for this from people who were doing builds and wanted to learn from the best how to avoid mistakes. We are happy to open these up to everyone in the hopes they will lead to better builds all around. The Level 2 forums may be found in the Armory section for that costume. A couple of caveats. Level 2 applications are for the applicant and the Level 2 Review team members to respond to ONLY. Any comments from any other user will be removed. I have shut off permissions to post to almost everyone except for members of the class in question (Example, only 501st Biker Scouts can post in the Lancer app thread, only 501st Shoretroopers can post in the Vanguard thread, etc). But anyone will be able to see the applications and hopefully learn from them. This is a trial basis thing and there will be bugs to work out, but I hope it leads to a better result overall. Pathfinders United!11 points
