Fettski
Can someone please post close up pics of their thigh pockets. Please. I am getting ready to do the pockets then dye them. I can handle the sewing, just not sure how to construct the pocket and could use some inspiration.

fett-bobafett
I am in the process of making my pockets also. I took the front pockets off the pants. I noticed that mine had a fold down the length of the one side of each pocket, but the other side length was sewn directly to the pants. I turned the pockets sideways to get more length and measured, then allowing for seams, stitched them, so both sides have that little fold down the length. I added a stiffener (I forget what you call it, but it is in the same section at the fabric store as the Pellon: Heavy Duty (2-sided fusible) "Wonder-Under" that I used to fuse the two pieces of fabric together. (The camo fabric and the stiffener stuff), to the front of the pocket to give it more support. (My Fett pockets sag, and I don't like it.) I still need to make the pockets' flap covers. I had to remove my back pockets to have enough matching material to make the flaps. My shirts (which were worn by someone and are washed many times) don't match my pants, so I really want my pockets to match my pants material so they take the dye the same way. I will sew the pockets and flaps back on the pants pretty much the same way they used to be, just in the right spot.
fett-bobafett
On another pants note, my buddy at Tandy leather hooked me up with some "washable" gray suede for the riding patch on the crotch/thighs. I plan to dye the pants first, then make a paper or fabric pattern, tape it on, see how it looks before cutting/sewing the patch on the pants. I had to buy the whole hide of suede, but at least it was on sale this week. I want to make sure I can wash those pants later when they get sweaty from hot New Mexico summer troops! Fettski
I took all of the exterior pockets off the pants and shirt then pulled all of the stitches out and removed the velcro from the pockets as well. I left the rear and hand pockets since they will barely even be noticeable. I am in the process of finding just the right size and location for my pockets and for my size, i am thinking 4x6(thanks Mosi for confirming what I was thinking) and the right height (thanks MrBungle) with a 1 inch depth. I think I will use a block of foam to keep the shape and see how it feels whan I get more of the costume together. I like the idea of washable grey suede. Please post how that works for you since that will be the next part i work on after pockets are finalized and dyed.
fett-bobafett
I washed the suede today, but won't get to the pattern yet. I need to finish my pockets and dye everything. I may have plenty of suede leftover. I'll have to see if it looks OK as some of the hide has areas of skin that don't look so good. PS I found a light gray cotton gauze fabric for my cumberbund. I don't know what I'll use for the vertical strips yet. The gauze came from Hancock Fabrics. It is crinkly, giving it a horizontal texture, and I think it will look fine when finished and dirtied. It is the same fabric (different color) that folks use for TPM and AOTC outer robe for Obi Wan Kenobi. I will need to use some type of backing to prevent sagging of the cumberbund, but this is similar to the idea of my armor vest for Fett: The nice fabric on the outside, a firm backing sandwiched in the middle, and a liner material on the side close to the body. Fettski
OK so here I i will post a few pics for my thigh pockets and a rough sketch of what I used to make them and the flap. Im sure some of you out there have sewing experience and will wonder what I was thinking, but I just made it up as I went. I am pretty happy with how it turned out and I hope that this doesn't seem too daunting to anyone. Just get some fabric and a sewing machine and make a few test runs to get a feel for it and have at it. I hope this helps. Sew the velcro on the pocket before you sew it to the pants, I forgot to and decided to do it by hand. Picture from below. Close up of pocket flap Diagram for pocket. The fractions are to account for about .25 inch on the corners. Flap diagram
