mb's KST undersuit and cumberbund.

Recommended Posts

here is my undersuit so far. they are british desert camo dyed black and brown. i have had the top pockets removed and used to cover the collar and chest buttons and lapel. that gives the top a turtle neck apperance. when you put the chest armor on, it really looks good. it is attached by velcro.

here are the pants thus far. i could not fine any grey leather so i used a gray material to do the riding patch. i still have to get the pockets moved and made in the right shape.

Too bad the sewing thread doesn't seem to carry the dye. I guess it's synthetic material.

Is it really that bright or is it just the flash brightening up the fabric?

I hope you find some grey colored material for you riding pads and look forward to the

progress.

the pants are darker than the shirt , but the camera flash does make it seem brighter. yeah the thread in the shirt soen't dye like the threads in the pants.

but the good news is once i get the alterations done, i can mist the suit with black spraypaint to give it that weathered look. and should help with the overall look.

weathering is where all the parts come together. man, i love spraypaint!!!!

here is the prototype cumberbund. the pouches need to be painted to lighting them or darken them. this is my friend's 2nd attempt at doing the cumberbund, she is getting better. need to move the belt down some and make it more narrow.

also needs to be dyed and weathered. she is currently making the 3rd one and hopefully we will have it pretty close.

anywhoo here is a pic.

here we are still working on the prototype cumberbund. the cod piece i plan to cover it with cloth and paint it. i have painted the pouches with spray paint to get the different shades and stuff. the camo on the armor is not the pattern on the pouches. still have to finish the buckle and paint the belt.

What type of thread did you used? Mine all dyed with the dye. I used grey leather suade for the riding pads.

the dye didn't work oj the shirt for some reason, it was the same thread that came with the shirt. i don't get it.

That is weird! Maybe it was not dyed long enough! The cumberbund and pouches look great! What type of cloth is the tan strips because if it is not cotton it may not dye correctly or are you trying to get a weather look using the tan strips after the dye sets in.

hey steve, welcome the KST section.

the vest you are interested is not correct. tactical vest will not work because the kst wears a cumberbund. i hate to be a hard azz , but tactical vest don't look right.

the one i am showing is a prototype and needs to be dyed grey.

Well as I said, I was going to mod it ie remove the shoulder straps etc and dye it a grey colour.

This would effectivly make it a cumberbund.

But if you think it wont work I might try something else. :)

the reason it will not work is because the cumberbund on the kst has vertical straps on the cumberbund with a mid-drift belt going around it. the tactical vest has horizonal straps and that would pose a big problem trying to alter.

lonescout has an awesome tutorial up on how to make a cumberbund. just don't dye it green.

you know me nate, i love spray paint. i dyed it and it did not come right so i spray painted it with grey primer. seems to do the trick until i can find a grey material that will work for the cumberbund or that will dye correctly.
