stuf123
Hello all, While I wait for my armor to ship, I thought I would get going on my blaster build.Lucky for me I have access to a 3D printer. This is fresh off the printer, so I still need to do all the cleanup work on it.

shdwtrpr13
dare I ask if your sharing the file?
stuf123
That's very cool! What's the weight on something like that? It is very lightweight. The inside is made up of a honeycomb pattern so it is solid but light. About 3oz. dare I ask if your sharing the file? Gladly. The model is located here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:42811 It prints great on my makerbot.
stuf123
Had such great success with the blaster that I thought I would try my hand at some lightsabers. The results were outstanding! Picked up some Bondo spot putty to see if I can fill in the print lines.
stuf123
Anyone have any accurate dimensions on the blaster? I think mine is a little on the small side. I placed it in the holder and it just rolled around. But when I hold it with the gloves on, it seems about right.
Griffin-X
The blaster looks pretty good to me. The size is really, really close. PanzerKraken
In your hand the blaster looks the correct size but that can be subjective. What's the boot holsters maker?
stuf123
Griffin-X - That link helps a lot. Thanks! PanzerKraken - It is part of the SC kit.
le1120
Try using XTC-3D from Smooth On for finishing the 3D prints. Might I ask where you got the files for the lightsabers?
JollyRajR
That's fantastic.. I'll be hitting up my colleague who has the 3D printer in his classroom.. It never occurred to me to even make costuming bits on that thing.. So rad of you to share the source on the files, too..
TreeDodger72
So, I got my 3D printed blaster. I was going to use XTC-3D to finish it, but I have a question as this is my first 3D printed piece. Is the matte finish from sanding the XTC-3D sufficient or is there something else that I need to do after that to the blaster? Does it need to be glossy or is the matte finish okay? Also, what is the best glue/epoxy to make sure the pieces stay together? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! -Juli
Bowfanny
If the filament was ABS plastic you can weld the pieces together with acetone, if its PLA plastic your options are slim with CA glue(aka super glue).
