Jimmyc
RS is supposed to be posting a build video soon on how to correctly put everything together; If anyone else needs help with this build. I know I'm waiting... thanks for posting how to add the extra vent, looks great! I haven't decided if I'm going to make that change or not... I'm kind of a purist when it comes to these helmets. 762s
RS is supposed to be posting a build video soon on how to correctly put everything together; If anyone else needs help with this build. I know I'm waiting... thanks for posting how to add the extra vent, looks great! I haven't decided if I'm going to make that change or not... I'm kind of a purist when it comes to these helmets. to me after seeing how the original was put together i figured it couldnt be that hard. plus, im a throw away the instructions and just build it type person so, Jimmy c ... if you need help with your build post here or send me a pm, im sure i can help you through it. as well, strider has a build process of his helmets, same style as the rs kits (5 piece) here http://forum.bikersc...ndpost&p=163988 and well, since im here i might as well add how i masked off the snout for the black paint. found some 2" wide painters tape, wax paper and a thin piece of cardboard ~ started with the cardboard and made a template .. the measurements on the template work for both my rs helmets ~ laid out a piece of wax paper and laid a strip of the 2" wide tape onto it ~ took the cardboard template and traced in onto the tape and then cut it to the line once you have your tape template just pull it off the wax paper and place it onto the snout .. mask off the rest of the helmet as necessary and paint the snout area black heres my template ...
762s
wanted to add this bit of info .. as im seeing a difference in the 2 helmets i did 1 helmet in white primer and 1 helmet in grey primer. i used the same paint on both helmets there is a clear difference of the tone of white that has shown through within a few weeks. the helmet on the left has a yellow tone and is prepped with white primer the helmet on the right is grey primer and is maintaining its white tone something you may want to consider when prepping the helmet to spray it white
sibbel29
I am researching my RS kit build but..... I really can't figure out why I have a couple of rivets with the kit. No tutorial or built is talking about them. Can you clear this up for me? cheers!
762s
I am researching my RS kit build but..... I really can't figure out why I have a couple of rivets with the kit. No tutorial or built is talking about them. Can you clear this up for me? cheers! heya... those rivets are to secure the headband if you choose to use it.. some prefer to use foam pads. if you want the headband then check strider post here http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=17305&st=60 he shows how to install the headband using those rivets or you can glue it in like i did mine
762s
i know its not the spec ops section but, its my rs build thread and its a rs kit so .... heres #4 of my rs builds i was going to go with the black on black and after alot of thinking im glad i did not do that ... i think the grey on black looks alot better also, did this with a chrome mirrored lens made from an hjc motorcycle helmet visor a few pics of my shadow scout variant now, a little bit of update with my last 2 rs kit builds as i was not to impressed with the quality of the last 2 kits i recieved: ~ the penciled cut lines looked like they where drunk when they marked the parts up ~ the pulls where pretty bad ... top half of one of the helmets was warped out, visor return on two sections wasnt formed right ~ the plastic pieces where covered in massive layer of black dust ~ the plastic sections didnt match each other, i had 3 different colors of white plastic ... the thickness seemed abit different between the pieces, esp. on one of the helmets as the sections did not line up at all without having a raised edge ~ the plastic was scratched and marred ~ snout greeblie looks like the mold broke off inside the engine fins -- still waiting on a replacement its still been fun to build the kits even with the issues i had with the last 2 builds ...
DK5IDE
Wow, you are tearing through those kits and making fine work. That black number is pretty sweet. I'm doing 2 at a time but feel like I'm moving at Hutt speed. Good stuff, man.

Bobik96
What kind of paint did you use?
762s
What kind of paint did you use? i use a spray can -- dupli-color acrylic enamel -- from advance auto their gloss white and flat black i find it does not have the problems that alot of spray cans have with the paint running/building up to quick and i dont see the gloss hazing over like i have seen with some other sprays which requires a gloss clear coat! and after using the flat black i must say its really nice too ... main positive i can mention is there is no black dust on the item sprayed after the paint dries like other flat based spray paints i have tried leave...... for me, this type of paint is a nice spray paint as you have an hour to respray from your first coat ... this helps as you can lay on multiple very light coats and build up to a nice high gloss finish that does not require a clear coat and again does not have a haze over the finish and reduces the risk for runs. i have sprayed 6 helmets with this paint and i am very impressed with the way it lays down an shines. the only downside to using this type of paint is .... there is a 7 day wait to respray after the 1 hour mark, this is because the paint needs to degas itself .. do not attempt to respray after an hour or you will end up with a horrible orange peel effect show up almost instantaneously ... so, if your going to paint with it, get all your coats done within the hour or plan to wait the 7 days to add more coats. hope that helps and good luck!
762s
well, finally got my replacement part from rs prop masters so, i was able to finish off #3 of my 4 builds i decided to do a weathered version with this one.
762s
and while i was on the hunt for a good screen accurate lens ... original link http://forum.bikersc...pic=18398&st=20 i got some help from strider with a type of lens to use. it took me abit of searching but, i found it and im happy with the lens. its a Oneal Grey 2018 B2 RL MX goggle replacement lens, fairly cheap too i ordered it from across the ocean and arrived within a week, the company i used for the lens is: http://www.freestyle...%5cu0020lens%7d heres a glance of it from the inside with the screen used helmet as reference below .. obviously lighting is effecting the "grey" tone (will try and get a cleaner/better pic)

From RS I became no answer. So I hope that I have more luck here. It shows that he screenused helmets are using different parts...and has also only 7 grooves on the back? What is right now? The helmet that RS got was a production made helmet that deviated in some details (like the number of vents) from the screen used helmets. And no the liner they use is anything but accurate. There is a seller on the market here in the forum though who sells the accurate ones. Cheers
kroenen77
Thanks for the information.Do you know the name of the seller? And about the vents(yes thats the right word)...here is a screenshot from ROTJ..only 7 Vents???

kroenen77
It shows that some helmets on screen has 8 and some only 7 vents I would say.But why?Did they used different masters? And when the RS parts inside the helmet are not accurate, what are the accurate screws for the visor? Is the Original Faceplate solid in place when you lift it up or must you hold it up with your hands? 762s
pics from starwarshelmets.com i think we see more 8 vents than 7, 9 vents ... but, i believe at this point any of those numbers would be ok as we do see them all being used. theres another screen used helmet with 8 errr 9 vents with the 8&9 vents built in together creating a wider vent heres another not finished with 9 .. the 9th in the center being smaller than the rest screen used ... with 8 vents
762s
@ kroenen77 for your first post a page back ... the rivets are to hold the headband in and that looks like what your helmet pic is showing on the inside, the studs might be where the headband where mounted. and with that helmet pic you have is that one with the incorrect snout greeblie? And when the RS parts inside the helmet are not accurate, what are the accurate screws for the visor? Is the Original Faceplate solid in place when you lift it up or must you hold it up with your hands? and with the RS bolt .. sand them down and paint them and they will look the part of being screen accurate ... the screen used bolts where from 3M headband the rs kit faceplate will sit up by itself .. but you will have to take a good portion of the visor out for it to do so ... heres 2 different rs kits i did
kroenen77
Thanks for the informations and really great helmets you made. I also think that all numbers of vents are accurate.I must look if I make an 8. one or let it with only 7. And yes the one pic is from the one with the wrong snoutpart. About my build: So the metalbolts are only for the ring for the head, right? And the plastic screws are for the visor only, right? But on the other side of the flat head is a molded square.Must I cut out the visor in this area like a square? I really want the screenaccurate liner in the helmet.Do you have pics how it looks? Did you sealed the sticker with clearcoat?

kroenen77
Thanks! I think the "polymer armory" and the "Endor Armory by DVH" are the best for me. PA has a website but cannot find one from DVH.
Chopper
Check here for blaster info: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=18225 If you're going for display only, I recommend the polymer armory pistol, but ultimately the choice is yours.
